Understanding Carbon Credits Carbon credits are a market-based way to support climate action. One carbon credit represents one ton of carbon dioxide reduced or removed from the atmosphere. Organizations that exceed their emission limits can purchase carbon credits from verified projects such as renewable energy, reforestation, or efficiency initiatives. This helps fund sustainable development while encouraging businesses to be more conscious of their environmental impact. While carbon credits play an important role, they work best when combined with real efforts to reduce emissions at the source. Sustainability is not just about offsetting. It’s about responsibility, innovation, and long-term change. #CarbonCredits #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GreenEnergy #CleanTech #ESG

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 Four years after its launch at COP26, the 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 (𝘍𝘔𝘊) has evolved from a bold climate signal into the 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. By the end of 2025, FMC united 𝟭𝟬𝟭 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟰 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀, collectively committing 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 $𝟭𝟵 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬. If delivered, these commitments correspond to ~𝟮𝟲 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 across seven of the hardest-to-abate sectors. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄. According to the IEA, ~𝟯𝟱% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟱𝟬. At the same time, nearly 𝟭𝟭,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗕𝗧𝗶 and ~70% of corporates plan to maintain or increase sustainability investments. FMC directly addresses this structural gap by aggregating credible long-term demand. 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱-𝘁𝗼-𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲: - 𝗔𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Book-and-claim SAF platforms have enabled the deployment of 𝟭𝟱𝟱+ 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗔𝗙, abating ~𝟯𝟳𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗖𝗢₂𝗲. - 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹 (𝗖𝗗𝗥): The market has shifted from pilots to portfolios, with 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲-𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗘𝗖𝗖𝗦, 𝗗𝗔𝗖 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗖𝗦 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀. - 𝗖𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 & 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲: Binding offtakes for near-zero cement are delivering 𝟴𝟬–𝟵𝟱% 𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, even at premium prices. - 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 & 𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘂𝗺: Hydrogen-based steel, inert anodes, electrified refining and CCUS pilots are moving into commercial-scale deployment. - 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: Orders for methanol-, ammonia- and battery-electric vessels and trucks are accelerating, with some programmes reaching 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗠𝗖 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀: this is not about voluntary climate leadership alone. FMC demonstrates that 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 can stabilise investment even amid fragmented regulation. Industrial decarbonisation is now constrained by market design. FMC shows that when demand is aggregated and credibility is enforced, early markets can move from intent to execution. The remaining five years to 2030 will be decisive, but the foundations for near-zero industrial supply chains are now firmly being built. #Decarbonisation #Energytransition #Sustainability

Starting 2026, it is clearer than ever how important it is to disseminate knowledge and actively engage all stakeholders of the energy transition for the sake of our planet. This article is a timely reminder that achieving the 1.5°C target now depends on turning ambition into action by closing finance gaps, addressing remaining emissions, and accelerating fossil fuel phase-out. Glad to start the year with this perspective, and many thanks to Emi Gui, Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition (CEET) and everyone who engaged with the article.
Last week, the CEET published an Energy Insights article on “COP30 Retrospectives and NDCs: Energy Transition Insights and Strategic Implications.” This article examines NDCs, remaining emissions, and finance gaps, and the emerging focus on fossil fuel phase-out and scalable implementation. Authors Emi Gui and Selen İnal highlight why achieving 1.5°C now depends on turning ambition into action. 🔗 Read the article: https://lnkd.in/gacgz8G5 #CEETEnergyInsights #EnergyTransition #COP30 | Sustainable Development Solutions Network UNIDO
