Video production companies are told one lie repeatedly: “Build a strong portfolio and clients will come.” A strong portfolio helps you close. It does not guarantee discovery. There are thousands of talented video production agencies with great work. But only a small percentage have predictable pipeline. Because buyers don’t magically discover production studios. They discover production companies that are visible at the right moment. Visibility is not passive. Visibility is intentional. The best video production companies don’t just build portfolios. They build systems that consistently put them in front of buyers. How did your last 3 video production clients actually find you?

Many video production agencies think their biggest advantage is creative quality. But clients rarely compare production companies based on creativity alone. They choose based on: Responsiveness Trust Familiarity Visibility The video production studios that stay visible to buyers win more projects. Not because they’re the best. Because they’re the most present. How often does your video production company show up in front of potential clients?

Most video production companies grow through referrals first. And referrals feel amazing. A new client shows up. The introduction is warm. The deal closes quickly. But referrals also hide a dangerous problem. You can’t control when the next one happens. And most production studios realize this only when referrals slow down. What percentage of your video production company’s projects come from referrals today?

Most video production companies don’t realize when their pipeline is at risk. Because everything looks fine. Projects are active. Clients are happy. Work is getting delivered. Nothing feels broken. Until suddenly, it does. A few weeks pass without new inquiries. No new conversations start. The production calendar starts thinning out. Not because your work isn’t good. Because most video production companies rely on momentum, not systems. Momentum feels stable. But momentum always fades. The studios that grow consistently don’t wait for momentum. They replace it with intentional pipeline. If no new inbound leads came in this month, would your video production company still feel secure?

What does spending more on video production actually buy you? It's usually two things that compound on each other: 1. Certainty. More budget = more time to get it right. You're not rushing decisions, cutting corners, or settling. You have the runway to think, iterate, and execute properly. 2. Creativity. Higher budgets unlock things that genuinely differentiate you — a unique camera package, a distinctive movement style, a recognisable talent. Things that make you unmistakeable. It's your first time hiring out for video production. You have a rough idea what you want, a good idea what you need it to do, and no idea what questions to ask a prospective producer. Here's my #1 suggestion:

The Next Phase of Keep Hollywood Home Following the initial round of Keep Hollywood Home motions, a new set of six focused proposals has been introduced to further support production in Los Angeles. These motions address key areas across the production ecosystem: (1) Production Fund — A pilot public-private fund to help small and mid-scale productions offset core costs (permitting, staffing, locations). (2) Post & VFX Retention — Strategies to retain editing, sound, visual effects, and finishing work in Los Angeles. (3) Creator Pass — A pilot program reducing fees for smaller productions (generally under 50 crew). (4) Performance & Accountability — Strengthening transparency, performance standards, and modernizing permitting systems. (5) Major Production Retention — Supporting large-scale TV, film, and commercial production through more predictable processes. (6) Local Vendor Support — Exploring incentives to strengthen the broader production ecosystem (rental houses, post, transportation, and other vendors). Together, these efforts reflect a broader focus on keeping production, jobs, and small businesses in Los Angeles and ensuring our region remains competitive and well-positioned for the future. These motions will now move through the committee process. We’ll continue to share updates and ways to support as next steps take shape.

Video production companies don’t have a lead problem. They have a consistency problem. One month is full. Next month is quiet. A production studio closes a big project. Then nothing for weeks. Not because the video production company is bad. Most video production agencies don’t control how new opportunities are created. They wait for: - inbound - referrals - recommendations And those come in waves. Does your video production business feel consistent or unpredictable right now?

Most video production companies are busy. But not secure. A production studio can have: • active projects • ongoing edits • happy clients …and still have no idea where the next project is coming from. That’s the reality for a lot of video production agencies. Because the pipeline depends on: • referrals • inbound leads • repeat clients Not on something predictable. A video production company can look stable and still feel unstable. How far ahead can your video production company actually predict its next project?

Proud of the team on this one. For us, a video is never just about capturing moments. It’s about helping brands communicate progress clearly and build real confidence with the people who matter, investors, partners, stakeholders. If you’re building something meaningful, make sure you’re documenting and positioning it properly.
It was an opportunity to help our client communicate progress, build investor confidence, and document growth. We partnered with Keble (Techstars ‘22) to capture their property development inspection day, highlighting key milestones across their co-owned properties and presenting them in a way that speaks directly to investors. At Influence Studios, every production we take on is built around one thing: telling the right story to the right audience, with intention… If you’re looking for a strategic video production partner to position your brand properly, send us a DM or email info@influence-studios.com

Referrals are the most dangerous source of growth for video production companies. Not because they are bad. Because they are unpredictable. Referrals make production studios feel safe while they are flowing. But referrals cannot be scaled, forecasted, or controlled. Most video production agencies only realize this after referrals slow down. That’s when pipeline instability becomes visible. The most stable video production companies don’t rely on referrals alone. They build additional ways to consistently create new business conversations. That’s what makes growth predictable. What percentage of your video production company’s projects currently come from referrals?
