Mike Chapple’s Post

I don’t run a restaurant. I’ve never even worked in one. But I just tore through Will Guidara’s Unreasonable Hospitality thanks to a recommendation from Kristopher Priemer and it was full of great business insight. A few of my takeaways: 1️⃣ Surprise and delight is a strategy, not an accident 2️⃣ Thoughtfulness is more impactful than grandeur 3️⃣ Generosity and creativity are a powerful combination What a great read! EDIT: I just opened up the next book on my list and it started with a quote that couldn’t be more perfect: Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world; unreasonable people persist in trying to adapt the world to themselves. Therefore all progress depends on unreasonable people. - GB Shaw

"Start with what you want to achieve, instead of limiting yourself to what’s realistic or sustainable." 😍

The quote by Shaw can be interpreted in different ways depending upon one's worldview. Glass half full or glass half empty? How does one define Change? How does one define Progress? For example, a Narcissist or Dictator might believe they need to Change or Adapt the world so that it fits his/ her vision and therefore justifies all actions or Progress towards that goal as worthy. Others would certainly disagree or deem those actions as Unreasonable. In short, all actions/ progress towards Change is not virtuous.

I was able to see him at the Global Leadership Summit, and loved his story about the hotdog! My takeaway? Learn to ask good questions, listen to the answer, and be prepared to serve them in how they answer.

One of the BEST business books ever written! I recommend this book all of the time. So many good nuggets related to systems, communication, culture, shared goals of excellence, and just how fun it can be to empower the team to blow a customer away!

More impressive is who he is married to, a creative genius who defies the limits with culinary delight. Take a look into her Chefs Table- Christina Tosi and the story of Milk Bar
