Hey men listen up! When I post about age discrimination in women it's not your me too moment. I'm obviously aware that ageism is a problem for men too but it's far worse for women. if you don't understand the word intersectionality now's the time to learn.
I wouldn’t be so quick to push the men away. I can’t say how much I appreciate you calling this out - ageism hits women so much more profoundly than men, but for men outside the 1% it’s usually a huge problem too. We shouldn’t reject allies simply because they haven’t suffered as much as we have. I wrote a lot about the systemic nature of this at https://open.substack.com/pub/rlsutter/p/ageism-isnt-a-bias-problem?r=6xsy42&utm_medium=ios
I keep saying to the "whatabout" and "metoo" men that they are free to make their own posts about their own issues. They don't need to hijack ours. But I guess the mansplaining urge is just too strong.
In full agreement with you. Sure things are hard for me in similar and different ways…but write your own post, rather than hijack.
It’s hard to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes. Some folks would rather throw peanuts from the gallery than support others’ experiences from a place of compassion.
I suffer from “the same” thing so I’m going to pretend like it’s not a problem is the weirdest take someone can have.
It also starts earlier for women than it does men 🤷♀️
This has the “not all men” energy to it. 🙄
