This one is personal. My brother Kevin has battled alcoholism for most of his life. He stopped drinking last April, somehow, he knew it was time, but we all thought it was too late. For years, it was hard. Hard to watch. Hard to understand. Hard to help. As someone who has spent much of my life coaching and developing people, I tried everything I knew… and nothing seemed to work. Last September, I stood in a hospital room convinced I was going to lose him. In that moment, there were no strategies left. No techniques. Just family. My brother, my sister, and I prayed. And somehow… things began to change. Ohio State accepted his case. We all met with the Doctors, Case Workers and Counselors. He received a liver transplant on October 26th. And today—he’s doing amazing. But what inspires me most isn’t just his recovery… it’s his purpose. He’s committed his life to becoming a counselor. He’s pursuing his BA with everything he has—and consistently making the Dean’s List. The same man who once struggled just to get through the day is now chasing a future where he can help others do the same. And the truth is… I feel like I have my brother back. Kevin’s journey is a reminder: Change is possible. Help matters. And determination—paired with support—can rewrite a life. I’m incredibly proud of him. If you’re struggling, or you know someone who is—don’t give up. There is a path forward. Sometimes, it just takes one moment… one decision… and people who refuse to stop believing in you.
Beautiful story of restoration and perseverance, love and faithfulness. Way to go Kevin - keep up the great work! We are very proud of you and all you are doing. Mike, all the years I’ve known you, you’re a great man of God, a corporate leader, father, husband, friend, (brother), etc. Thank you for loving your brother through this. And thank you Jesus for being their reason for living.
Our God is great! I’m so thankful to hear your brother’s progress and dedication to helping others continues. I will continue to lift your family in our prayers here.

Thank you for your very meaningful post Mike. "Sometimes, it just takes one moment… one decision… and people who refuse to stop believing in you."

Mike, thank you for sharing this post and for reminding us of the power of a single choice and unconditional love. Praying for Kevin as he continues traveling this path and pursuing his purpose.
Great story Mike… very proud of your brother!… so glad he has a new outlook on life… he will be very inspirational and will help a lot of people in the future… because he lived thru it… real stories have meaning and value!!! Congratulations!!
Inspiring story! Transformational change happens only when the person is ready and willing. We can’t change others; the best we can do is believe in them and give them space. This is my biggest personal challenge while coaching—not to get disappointed when people aren't ready to change, even if they want to.
Mike, having experienced your guidance as a coach, I can only imagine what it means to see your own brother go through such a transformation. Beyond everything you know and teach, it was your love and your unwavering faith that clearly made a difference, while Kevin’s journey is a powerful reminder that true change comes from within. Wishing Kevin continued faith and strength, and to your family, all the joy of having him back. 🙏🏻
