At #GlobalCitizenNOW: New York on May 14, our CMCO, Michael Roberts, joined a panel moderated by Michelle Miller alongside fellow panelist Jhae Thompson, Executive Director of Hit the Books, where they discussed the role education and sport plays in building confidence and resilience, and why expanding access to opportunity for children around the world is so important. Michael also highlighted our partnership with Global Citizen and MetLife Foundation’s founding donation of $9M to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, emphasizing the importance of local activation to help reach communities, convene partners, catalyze action and create meaningful impact. An important and highly appreciated initiative by MetLife, Global Citizen, and all participating organizations. Supporting education and sports as tools to build resilience, confidence, and opportunity for children is truly a noble contribution to society and future generations. At the same time, I believe transparency is equally important in such initiatives. Since insurance companies manage funds connected to policyholders’ retirement, savings, and educational plans, many people may naturally wonder whether charitable contributions of this scale come from corporate profits, foundations, or from funds linked directly or indirectly to policyholders. I believe clarifying this aspect would strengthen trust even further and create a valuable discussion around the balance between corporate social responsibility and fiduciary responsibility toward policyholders. I would genuinely be interested to hear different perspectives on this point.

Education and sport together truly unlock confidence, resilience, and real opportunity for young people. Powerful to see this backed by meaningful partnership and action on the ground.

It’s always inspiring to see Michael Roberts lead mission-driven brands and initiatives. He has a rare ability to see what’s possible in the world and bring people together around a bigger vision.

Great initiative Michael, fully agree!Congrats! Education and Sporting Mindset. In Chile I have been involved in Karate teaching for kids for many years and see how they have changed into capable, laborious and ethic individuals. Some were really wastrels before, but they now see the positive changing process they went through as an asset, as a proof of their will to improve and resilience.

Well put, Michael! Can't put enough emphasis on education for kids to build resilience. Competitive sports just make the learning out of education more explicit and reinforces thru real-life experiences!

Super inspiring! Education as a foundation of confidence. Resiliency is Key! Sports teach life-long behaviours!
