#ThrowbackThursday to a couple of weeks ago when I flew from California to Washington DC to speak at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's 54th Annual Legislative Conference. Block Advisors by H&R Block and Boss Women Media (shoutout to Marty McDonald for the production magic) invited me to join the Wealth Talk: Limitless Possibilities panel. And let me tell you what happened in that room at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center: We didn't talk AT people. We talked WITH them. The conversation went beyond financial literacy tips and budget spreadsheets. We got uncomfortably honest about: → Why so many of us are trapped in survival mode when we should be building wealth → The money moves our parents couldn't teach us because they never learned them → How to break generational patterns that keep Black families stuck → The mindset shifts required to go from hustling to sustaining Here's what surprised me: The room was PACKED. Business owners, policy makers, community leaders, founders - all furiously taking notes. Some had tears in their eyes. Others were nodding so hard I thought their necks would hurt. Because this wasn't another "just save more and invest" talk. This was about dismantling the psychological barriers that make wealth feel impossible. This was about economic mobility as a community imperative, not just an individual goal. One woman approached me after and said: "I've been in business for 15 years and I'm just now realizing I've been operating from survival, not strategy. This changes everything." THAT'S why I got on that plane. THAT'S why this work matters. THAT'S why we need more of these conversations in more rooms. The wealth gap won't close with workshops alone. But when we combine financial education with mindset transformation, policy awareness with practical action, and individual success with community impact? The possibilities really are limitless. This was just the FIRST speaking engagement of my DC week. More to share. But this one? This one reminded me why I do what I do. #WealthBuilding #CongressionalBlackCaucus #ALC54 #FinancialLiteracy #EconomicMobility #GenerationalWealth #BlackBusiness #Leadership #CommunityImpact #MindsetShift #BlockAdvisors #BossWomenMedia #WashingtonDC

💥 “It doesn’t happen overnight.” When I asked Michael Wynn how people can break free from financial struggle, he didn’t sugarcoat it. He spoke directly about the habits and mindset shifts that help Black families and professionals build lasting stability — even when the system isn’t built for them. What struck me most was his belief in starting small. He said the path to financial freedom begins with one habit, one plan, and one act of consistency — and that’s enough to create a ripple effect for generations. 🌱 What financial or life habit are you building now that your future self will thank you for? #MichaelWynn #HabitsDontLie #FinancialFreedom #BlackExcellence #Inspiration #Leadership #Empowerment #Community #WealthBuilding #TheColorBetweenTheLines #EstherDillard

Did you know that 70 % of Black entrepreneurs say they lack the tools to scale? The infographic we just launched, “21,” breaks down the five core focus areas that are turning that statistic into opportunity. At Hill Management Consulting we’ve spent three decades turning insight into action. Our entrepreneurship hub gives founders legal guidance, access to capital, and mentorship from seasoned Black business owners. In politics, we empower communities with policy analysis and civic‑engagement workshops that have increased voter turnout in underserved districts. On the education front, we partner with schools in Dallas and McKinney to embed culturally relevant curricula and provide after‑school academic‑athletic programs through the Reel Sports League, which already serves over 25 Columbus City Schools. Health and wellness initiatives—ranging from nutrition workshops to mental‑health outreach—close gaps in preventive care, while our family‑strengthening programs, including the “Pop the Balloon” experience, help couples and parents build resilient relationships. The “21” infographic shows how these five pillars interlock like the spokes of a wheel, each feeding the other to create a self‑sustaining ecosystem of empowerment. Whether you’re a nonprofit leader, educator, or entrepreneur, you can tap into one or all of these streams to elevate your community. Let’s connect if you’re looking to amplify your impact through one of these focus areas. From the 90s until the early 2000s, DEI existed primarily in the realm of business development, as a driver of economic growth. It mirrored the American empire's shift toward neoliberal policies, attempting to show a softer face to empire, one that was inclusive and accessible to many peoples so long as we adhered to certain fundamental rules of racial capitalism. Throughout this period, the left failed to adequately capture the merits of human diversity, instead focusing (and failing) to build class consciousness through a reductionist class identity. And now as American free-market neoliberalism collapses, and is replaced by economic nationalism, state pressure to eradicate DEI initiatives almost seems too easy. We have a wonderful body of knowledge on how to build institutions that cater to human diversity and leverage those differences to develop better services for humanity. We don't need to toss out these lessons and research on heterogeneity as we enter this new era. But it's most certainly time that we begin to transfer this knowledge outside of the control of markets (and capitalism) to building real grassroots power. From running diverse political campaigns to building diverse democratic institutions to creating diverse cooperatives, the realm of diverse power-building (absent the profit motive) is drastically under-researched and under-practiced. If you're a DEI practitioner that is struggling to find purpose in this new reality, I would suggest making this pivot: work on political campaigns, join your local government constituent organizations, join co-ops, get involved in community events and organizing, etc. Find ways to bring your knowledge and skills into areas that have been traditionally regarded as being dominated by the "left," an American left that, let's face it, has not always been diverse and inclusive.

Why was the B.R.I.D.G.E Program created? Did you know that Black Women are the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs in the United States? Despite this impressive growth, they still face significant barriers to success. For instance, Black Women receive only a fraction of the venture capital funding allocated to their white counterparts, often due to systemic biases and limited networking opportunities. These disparities in funding and support can hinder their ability to scale their businesses and thrive. The B.R.I.D.G.E Program aims to tackle these issues by fostering an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem that empowers Black Women and promotes equity in business growth. The B.R.I.D.G.E (B.uilding R.esources, I.nspiring D.evelopment, G.uidance, and E.mpowerment) Program was established to address the unique challenges faced by underrepresented entrepreneurs, particularly Black Women. Its primary goals are to provide access to resources, mentorship, and funding opportunities that can help level the playing field in the business world. We look forward to engaging with you!

"Rooted in Money": An Unapologetic Look at Black Financial Futures and Standing Firm in Power and Pride. We’ve been busy working to bring you something special to mark #BHM2025 (Black History Month 2025) and are incredibly excited to announce the launch of our brand new blog series: "Rooted in Money." Why This Series, and Why Now? This series takes an unapologetically laser-focused approach to the improvement of our financial future. "Rooted in Money" is a collection of work dedicated to dissecting the systemic barriers underpinning financial inequality for Black communities right here in the UK. We're going beyond the surface to examine the structures that have created and continue to maintain the wealth gap. What to Expect.... Over the next week, we’ve lined up some insightful voices to contribute to this series. They will be sharing their expertise, experiences, and analysis on various topics - from housing access and generational wealth to the role of policy and investment. Our goal is simple: to start a powerful, honest conversation that is both educational and action-oriented. By naming and understanding the financial systems at play, we can better equip ourselves and our communities to navigate them and push for change. Today we share a great introductory piece from our CEO Muna Yassin MBE to give you a taste of what's to come. https://lnkd.in/eXxbEusn Thank you to our amazing contributors for supporting us with this and look out for their great work over the next week Dr Nathania A. Black Wealth: 30 Years Stuck in Neutral | Channels.biz The Path Forward The last 30 years show that “business as usual” hasn’t worked for Black prosperity. Real change will require new ownership models, aggressive policy reform, better access to capital, and a focus on asset-building that goes far beyond token success stories. Black families and entrepreneurs need infrastructure, support, and investment to break the cycle—and finally move the needle on wealth and power. There are so many things that I love about the #creditunion industry. Here are a few. 1. It is a Mission Based financial industry. What does that mean? It means that every credit union's mission is to help its #member. #peopleoverprofit. We are seeing the evidence of this in the government shutdown loans. No other industry has stepped in or stepped up to help out those who are going with out. 2. People. 👇 Josh Rodriguez is just one example of the #amazing people who keep pushing and finding new ways to improve members lives. These are challenging times, and credit union people keep pushing forward, no matter how hard, because the know there is a "person/member" who needs them. Thank you Josh Rodriguez and so many, many others who do this - You #rock! 3. Making a difference. Without having to run into a burning building or being in the ER, #creditunions are #financial #first #responders. Helping members were they are at, it what this industry was founded to do and keeps in doing. #thankful #lovingit #humbledtobeapartofit.
Debriefed my Senior Leadership Team at West Community Credit Union this morning on my recent conference experience. Legit #CreditUnion rockstars, btw. Top three takeaways - • Relationships trump all. (CU 2.0 Kirk Drake Misty Picazo ) • AI is not the game, clean data is the game. (Anne Legg) • Use data to create #Impact opportunities. (Room39a Blake Woods) After spending so many years leading an institution, I find it very fulfilling to use my gifts and talents to their fullest potential. I’m in a totally different season at the moment, but loving every minute of it.
