I had such an amazing time at the Bar Chart Club Conference yesterday! I want to first give a HUGE thank you to Erin Waldron for inviting me! This event was such a great reminder of how much there is to learn when it comes to data visualization. This conference brought together an incredible community of people who genuinely care about making data clearer, more meaningful, and more impactful. I walked away with so many new perspectives, but a couple really stuck with me. First, thinking about presentations like a five course meal where you start with the most important insights first, rather than saving them for the end. Second, applying principles from fine art, like composition and contrast, to make data visualizations not just informative, but intuitive and engaging. It’s rare to attend something that’s both immediately practical and creatively inspiring, but this conference definitely delivered. I’m excited to already start applying what I learned.
