Cool words, but no clarity. If visitors can’t tell what your product does in less than 2 seconds, you’ve lost most of them. 👉 Show your product Don’t just describe what your product does, show it. A simple screenshot, a demo video, or UI GIFs can do more convincing than paragraphs of text or fluffy AI graphics. 👉 Make that CTA pop No jokes. Bigger. Brighter. Clearer. Your call-to-action should be impossible to miss. Someone else just launched. Their product is rougher than yours. The UI is clunky. Half the features you planned are missing. But they're out there. Getting users. Getting feedback. Getting somewhere. And you? You're still pixel-pushing in private. Here's what nobody tells you when you're starting out, Most startups don't fail because the product was broken. Because in the vast, competitive world of startups, design isn’t decoration; it’s differentiation. I’ve observed that the startups that both gain traction and last do 3 things differently: 1) They embed user-centred design early, uncovering friction before it costs them huge development bills. Or worse, customers. 2) They use branding well: visual identity, tone, consistency. There are many startups out there, all with phenomenal technological use cases but only nuanced differences. The best way to stand out to customers and investors is through design; creating a credible first impression and a story that makes the product unforgettable. 3) They treat conversion, retention and engagement metrics as design KPIs, not just post-launch tweaks. It’s the perfect time to test your brand alongside your product so both evolve together and truly resonate with your audience. UniHustle started as a spreadsheet. I still remember presenting the idea to my team, and they were not having it. We had spent over a year slowly building UniHustle’s website. With school work and the challenge of finding engineers willing to join the team without any remuneration, it took much longer than we planned. While reading The Lean Startup by Eric Ries, I realised that, like many founders, we had spent too much time building what we thought was a perfect product without validating the idea in the market. At the time I created the spreadsheet, a few teammates had left because of exams, new jobs, or personal reasons. One of us, Godswill Oluwatosin, suggested ways to make it look more appealing, and after getting feedback from some of our prospective users, we refined it into what you see in the video. Through this simple MVP, we were able to register over 100 business owners. The second MVP, unihustle.ng, was later created to make it easier for customers to search and find the products or services they need.
