1y"the student has reimbursed you for the effort you put into the book" -- maybe not -- the student could have borrowed your book from a friend or from a library, or bought the book used from someone else. There are many ways people can read books without ever compensating the authors or publishers. Perhaps someone originally purchased a book, but a book can change hands many times.
