Archivists often help individuals manage and preserve digital files of personal significance. These files may include documents, photographs, emails, social media posts, and other digital content accumulated over a lifetime. The objective is to ensure these digital artifacts remain accessible and intact, preserving personal history and legacy. As digital technology increasingly shapes lives, archivists can educate others on understanding and implementing personal digital archiving practices to safeguard digital memories. https://lnkd.in/eFvNu6yn

Every deposition, hearing, and trial represents a moment when facts are documented and preserved. But a shrinking stenography workforce means too many of those moments are at risk. A report by the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) shows enrollment in stenography schools has plunged by 74%, and nearly half of all stenography programs have closed. Digital reporting ensures the public’s right to an accurate record is protected—not lost to outdated limitations on technology. Certified digital reporters are trained professionals who uphold the same ethical and procedural standards as their stenographic peers. The only difference is the tool they use to preserve the truth. The trained professional is still in the room. Let’s not allow technology to divide the profession—it should strengthen it. https://lnkd.in/g3ykS-_6 #CaptureTheRecord #Transparency #LegalProfession #InnovationInLaw #DigitalReporting

Today, 10/10, a binary day on the calendar, is #ElectronicRecordsDay! Just as with paper archives, there is a critical need to manage and preserve digital records. If you're considering digitizing your paper archives, you likely have more records than you can manage. When planning a digitization project, you'll need to prioritize! One tip is to consider making your priority list using RAVE: Rare documents or media, At-risk documents or media, Valuable documents or media, Exposed to frequent handling or exhibition. 🔗: Explore digital preservation resources on the DHPSNY website: https://lnkd.in/ehh_XBq6 #DigitalPreservation ##Dhpsny #ArchivesMonth #PreservationTips #CollectionsCare #RAVEmethod

Extensible processing is a beacon guiding archivists toward a user-focused approach. As Daniel A. Santamaria articulates in his book Extensible Processing for Archives and Special Collections: Reducing Processing Backlogs, shifting from a rigid, standardized methodology to one prioritizing access over perfection is paramount. Extensible processing explores its impact on time-sensitive workplaces and the measures archivists take to enhance the self-service experience for users. https://lnkd.in/eMur2TuH

When Tools Exceed Their Design: A Philosophy of Flexibility My philosophy when designing the LLM Sandbox has always been to create a tool flexible and powerful enough that what our users do with it will exceed what I could have designed for explicitly. I think this is a good design philosophy, it applies to computers, the internet, and AI. Each of these tools, by virtue of good design and open-endedness, have enabled uses far beyond what their original creators could have imagined. I certainly don't think the LLM Sandbox is in the same league as the internet, but I try to apply this philosophy to the tools I build. Case in point: In a recent demo (see link below), I illustrate an entire class of use cases I never explicitly designed for, automatically filling in arbitrary Microsoft Word templates (think Office Action response shells, IDS forms, assignments, etc.). The workflow is straightforward: ✅ Pull USPTO prosecution data through the search tab ✅ Use Agent Mode to extract relevant information ✅ Apply Edit Mode to auto-populate template fields Unlike some AI companies in the IP space that build pre-packaged, closed-ended tools (each sold separately so they can charge customers more for every new feature or capability) I want to provide you with a single “Sandbox” that enables you to complete any patent-related task, even those I couldn't foresee, in the way that makes the most sense to you and your clients, and which ultimately produces a better work product. What will you discover is possible? Watch the full demo: https://lnkd.in/g6mtRG5d #PatentProsecution #LegalTech #AIAutomation #PatentAttorney #Innovation #LegalAI #ProductDesign #OfficeAction

This is a great idea for a series of programs at public libraries. Two or three programs about how to document and preserve digital family relics, especially photos and family papers (artifacts).
