An AI agent can execute perfectly and still fail to fulfil the order. It’s because AI agents operate in real time, while most commerce stacks don’t. Take a straightforward commerce flow, for example - - The agent checks availability, places the order, and then triggers fulfilment. - The storefront shows the item in stock. But the warehouse feed is a few minutes behind. Somewhere else, the last units have already been reserved. - The AI agent did exactly what it was designed to do. But because most of the attention is still on the model, we don't realise that the risk sits in the systems around it. At Trika, one of the teams that we were working with was facing a similar issue, and we addressed this by keeping the underlying systems tightly aligned. We fixed this by : - Moving inventory and order sync to live event streams across ERPs, OMS, and PIMs. Agents now query current data instead of delayed feeds. - Shifting fulfilment and tracking flows out of manual reconciliation and into configurable workflows managed by business teams. - Wired the Next.js storefront to the same live signals the warehouse sees, with monitoring in place to catch issues early. When these connections stay tight, agent behaviour starts to look much closer to what teams expected going in.  Model capability will keep improving.
