Week 4 Complete – ML Zoomcamp Progress! I’ve just wrapped up Week 4 of the ML Zoomcamp by Alexey Grigorev and it’s been a challenging yet rewarding part of the journey! This week focused on Evaluation Metrics for Machine Learning, and it really shifted how I think about model performance. Here are a few of my biggest takeaways: ✅ Accuracy isn’t always enough: in imbalanced datasets, metrics like precision, recall, F1-score, and ROC AUC tell a much deeper story. ✅ Choosing the right threshold can completely change how a model behaves in production: it’s not just about the best “score,” but about balancing business priorities. ✅ Cross-validation helps reveal how models generalize, especially when data isn’t perfectly clean. ✅ And finally visualization matters: ROC curves, confusion matrices, and precision-recall plots make your model’s behavior visible and explainable. I think having a strong portfolio can do wonders to help you stick out among recruiters and companies. And deploying webapps to display your skills and models can sometimes be pretty challenging. When I first got into ML it was TOUGH for me to deploy my own projects! One great library to help you speed up and display your skills in ML or data webapps is Taipy! I recently picked up "Getting Started with Taipy" from Packt, and it opened up how simple, yet powerful the framework is for building end-to-end data applications. The book has some great resources to get introduced, and a link to lots of examples in their github repo! If you're looking for a way to make you Data or ML projects more interactive I would 100% recommend Taipy!

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Commit Your Code Conference—and I’m still impressed. Huge kudos to Danny Thompson and the Dallas Software Developers Group volunteers for organizing such a professional-level event. I was surprised to learn this was only its second year—it felt like a well-established conference. From live streaming and recordings to a full audio/video setup, everything was top-notch. And the best part? Tickets were just $50, with profits going to charity. Incredible value. The conference offered something for everyone: Leadership, Cloud, AI, and Coding tracks. As someone who hasn’t coded in years (my background includes FoxPro, C++, and Visual Basic), I found the content both accessible and inspiring—it reignited my interest in getting back into development. The keynote by Matthew McDole, CTO of Yum! Brands, was a highlight of the event. He echoed several insights I’d come across in The AI Driven Leader by Geoff Woods, and one theme in particular really resonated with me: AI will amplify the impact of senior engineers more than junior ones. Senior engineers can leverage their deep experience to work faster and smarter, while junior engineers will use AI as a learning tool. It’s a powerful reminder that strong foundations matter more than ever.
