You usually hear from us about changes to standards, regulations, and risk, but this time we’re talking about something a little different.
Two of our go-to authoring tools, Mighty and Rise, have had recent updates that give instructional designers more creative freedom than ever, including custom code and CSS styling, reflection blocks, sliders, and flexible new layouts.
These enhancements don’t just make courses prettier; they make them more interactive, brand-aligned, and human.
We’ve pulled together the key updates (and what they mean for learning design) in a quick visual rundown.
Swipe to see how these changes open new possibilities for creating engaging, on-brand learning experiences.
At RTP, we’re excited about how these tools help us design learning that connects, captivates, and drives real impact.

Presenting complex scientific data—like Enzyme Kinetics or intricate Signaling Pathways—can instantly lose your audience, no matter how great your research is.
My goal is always to reduce a complex concept to a clear, visual narrative. These are my 2 favorite, user-friendly tools that save me about 2 hours a week on presentation design:
1. BioRender: The Scientific Illustrator 🧬
(Paid / Free Trial Available)
Best For: Creating beautiful, professional, and scientifically accurate molecular and cellular diagrams.
The Win: It has a massive library of pre-drawn icons, so you don't need advanced design skills. It makes you look like a pro, quickly.
2. Canva: The Visual Simplifier 🎨
(Free Version is Powerful)
Best For: Turning complex flowcharts or methodologies into a clear, visual story.
The Tip: Use their "Infographic" templates. Quickly simplify a convoluted process into a 3- or 4-step, color-coded visual. Pro-Tip: Stick to 3 primary colors max.
Stop spending hours fiddling with PowerPoint shapes. Use these tools to make your science accessible, engaging, and fundable.

NotebookLM can now create video slideshows!
I'm excited yet worried. Here's why:
What I find exciting:
🎉 Great way to make things "less scary" as a starting point, especially for visual learners
🎉 No effort now to create a "v1 storyline" for iteration; no need to stare at a blank screen anymore
🎉 Cool inspiration for simple yet pleasing slide layouts; easy to pick and choose and iterate
But here's why I'm worried:
🚨 The most valuable part of writing is training yourself to think clearly; there are few substitutes to get there
🚨 Yes, low-value-add tasks (e.g. aligning boxes, changing font styles) should go away; principled thinking shouldn't
🚨 Operators who think clearly will run even faster now with these tools; others will be left behind
The bottom line is this: Every step of building a slide is an intentional decision.
Sure, not every part of it may feel fun.
But some seemingly "tactical" or "trivial" decisions actually require incredible clarity of thought.
And the best operators know what they're signaling with every move on a slide.
Because they've been training all along.
For example:
❌ Thinking box sizes don't matter
✅ Realizing real estate signals importance
❌ Thinking the order doesn't matter
✅ Realizing it suggests relative priority
❌ Thinking the colors don't matter
✅ Realizing curation is a strategic choice
So yes: in this day and age, no one should be wasting time formatting charts or aligning text boxes anymore.
But you cannot replace clarity of thought.
Otherwise? You'll simply end up sabotaging yourself via "unintentional signaling."

___
Per Category Reference lines.... Natively ⁉️
Here's a quick formatting trick, that helps you visually replicate per category reference lines without any custom visuals.
Yes, error bars can get you close, but format size limitations still makes this clearer win - especially in migration projects where visual parity matters and every detail counts!
*You would need to play around with visual layout size to keep it consistent with changing category's size.

BuddyBar 2.0 is Here!
I've completed my newest update to BuddyBar, my free Chrome extension I originally built to make life easier for instructional designers working in Articulate Rise.
Version 2.0 adds three big upgrades requested by the community:
• Unlimited Colors — no more limits when building brand palettes!
• Drag-to-Reorder — easily organize your swatches exactly how you want. (you can also name swatches now!)
• Import & Export Templates — download templates as .buddybar files to share with your team, or import them by simply dragging files onto the bar.
If you already have BuddyBar installed, the update should roll out automatically via the Chrome Web Store.
If not, you can add it free here: https://buddybar.io or directly via the chrome store.
Hope you enjoy it!

Paint your narratives with the vivid colors of AI-generated graphics. By using intriguing plugins like Adobe Express and DALL-E, you can bring your proposal to life using compelling visual cues. A simple prompt such as "Info chart showing metrics for client savings" can morph into a captivating visual telling its own story.
Invite your potential clients into a world where text marries stunning visuals to present an irrefutable case for your proposal. Are you ready to dip your toes into the futuristic world of AI-powered proposals? #proposalwriting#engineering#construction#proposalmanagement

I’m happy to share I’ve built a robust Drawing feature from scratch in Jetpack Compose, which is used to draw on any composable: Button, Text, Image, Icon, Custom Composable etc.
✨ Below is the video of a small use case where it can be used for:-
Some of the key highlights:
1. Multiple drawing states allowed, all states are gracefully handle inside viewmodel, as you can see destroying composable didn't lost the data.
2. Implemented custom gesture that handles multi-finger zoom and pan, while distinguishing between stylus writing, single-finger drag, multi-touch, and even wrist touches to provide paper like writing experience.
3. Stylus-only input by default for precise form filling use case
4. Implemented Android coordinate conversion from screen space to image space, enabling precise path (x, y) handling, clipping to the visible area, and natural stroke scaling with zoom.
5. Other features - Eraser, pen-color, pen-size etc
6. Image support – zoom, move, interact freely to paste patient photo etc
7. Finger writing support
and much more....
✨ This has been a great learning experience with Jetpack Compose Canvas, gesture detection, and coordinate mapping. I’m also thinking about turning this into a library in the future, so developers can enable drawing on any Composable– would love to hear your thoughts on whether that would be useful. #AndroidDevelopment#JetpackCompose#UI#GestureHandling#DigitalHealth#HealthCare
