LifeWorks Austin’s Post

Last week, LifeWorks was invited to a FYI roundtable hosted by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in San Antonio, one of only three cities selected across the country, where young people from our community shared their stories directly with federal housing leaders. The reason this matters: 59% of youth experiencing homelessness in Austin report a history of foster care. FYI vouchers, which provide at least three years of housing stability for youth with foster care history, are one of the most powerful tools we have to change that. Austin has been leading voucher utilization in Texas, and being at the table in San Antonio was an opportunity for our young people to be heard at the highest levels. The youth we served showed up as experts. Because they are. We go wherever there's an opportunity to advance solutions for young people facing homelessness, and we're proud that Austin's voice was part of this national conversation. Thankful for your youth that shared their stories, ideas and recommendations. Our work will be better because of their thoughtful engagement.
