On July 1st 2026, I will begin an 18-month journey driving a van from Denmark to South Africa and back. This will be under the name “Syncro Sally Voyage” Africa is the region with the largest growth potential in container shipping when looking out towards 2050. Syncro Sally Voyage is an on-the-ground journey through almost all countries of Africa, where I will be observing the real-life conditions and opportunities for container shipping supply chains in the continent along the way, and sharing my observations here on LinkedIn. The expedition follows the route: Denmark → Spain → Ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar → Morocco → West Africa → South Africa → East Africa. At this point in time I am opening up for companies who would have an interest in collaboration opportunities during the voyage. Collaboration could include options for both onsite events in Africa as well as online events along the journey in addition to branding and communication opportunities. If you are interested, send me an email or a message here on LinkedIn and I can send you a document outlining the opportunities. My email is in my contact details here in my profile. And for those many followers relying on my daily news updates, don’t be concerned. I will remain online and working throughout the journey and still provide my updates throughout. If you wonder why it is called “Syncro Sally Voyage”, it is because the van is a VW T3 Syncro which has been given the name “Sally”.

Lars - Have a great trip - Not sure if you are aware in 1992 Michael Palin shot a documentary called Pole to Pole where basically followed the 30th longitude using land or sea - air only when necessary. It was unforgettable journey and I hope yours is too.

Safe travels Lars Jensen. Maybe also use the opportunity to test availability of sustainable fuels during the journey 😉?

Bravo on a granular transport exploration that is forward looking and squarely anchored in the major region destined to show the most container volume growth! By one credible estimate, by 2100 Africa will have a population approaching Asia and the 3 most populous cities in the world will be there (Lagos, Dar Es Saleem and Kinshasa). Where go people, go containers. The bright long term macroeconomic picture for Africa is another reason the shutting down of USAID support, which was disproportionately focused on Africa, was an unwise move. Bad for the US, good for China, which has already quickly moved to fill the vacuum as evident by the extraordinary growth in container shipments involving Africa over the last year.
