Do yourself a favor and EXPAND your search BEYOND what you've done in the past. Most jobs are in SMB's.....be sure to add those to your list so you aren't left holding the bag because all your eggs were in one basket! He is back at square one. I don't want that to be where you find yourself, also!

If a line on your CV doesn’t help you get hired at a FAANG company, then delete it. I still remember the first time I heard this line. It completely changed the way I looked at my CV. Back then, my resume was filled with everything I’d ever done, every course, every tool, every little project. I thought more meant better. But the truth hit me hard: recruiters don’t want to read everything you’ve done. They want to see why you matter. That’s when I started trimming, brutally. Every bullet point had to earn its place. Every word had to justify its value. I began asking myself one simple question before adding anything new: “Will this line really help me get hired at a FAANG company?” If not -> I deleted it. And that’s when my CV finally started to stand out. Here’s what I learned, a great CV isn’t about length, it’s about impact. Keep it to one page if possible, but make every word count. ✅ Highlight measurable achievements, not just responsibilities. ✅ Focus on results, not activity. ✅ Include only relevant skills, tools, and technologies. ✅ Show growth, problem-solving ability, and ownership. ✅ Keep it clean, focused, and easy to scan. I keep getting asked: "Is working at FAANG really that important?" My honest answer: "I don’t know!".... it’s subjective. But here’s what I do believe... and what I’ve seen firsthand.... about how a stint at a FAANG or big tech company can change your career’s trajectory. I once mentored an engineer who had built solid experience at mid-tier companies. Then she joined a FAANG team. Within two years: 1) Their technical depth and breadth often grow much faster (because you deal with scale, resilience, tradeoffs) 2) They get visibility... peers, recruiters, leadership start noticing the "FAANG stamp" 3) They gain access to internal mobility... shifting across teams, domains, roles becomes easier That’s not magic... it comes from how large tech orgs are structured, the people you work with, and how others perceive “big tech experience.” So...... would I tell someone to only aim for FAANG? Nooo! But if you get in, and you make the most of it... it becomes a powerful springboard! #career #FAANG #software #growth

This is the strangest employment market I have ever recruited in. The mismatch between expectations and qualifications is an enormous gap. Employers looking for rainbow colored unicorns based on specific companies or universities when their company doesn’t have the reputation, funding, or excitement to pull those candidates. Job hugging is real folks. Candidates “Open to Work” but not really trying to be hired. I’m not asking for cinematic productions and creative outreach. I’m talking read the job description that I sent you before our call, actually show up for your call, respond to emails. This is a really low effort ask. Then I have candidates who should be getting hired. They have the skills, experience, work ethic. They show up prepared. But I can’t get them hired because they didn’t go to Berkeley, don’t work at FAANG/MAANG or heaven forbid, worked contracts. And the onsite requirements are reducing the candidate pool to handfuls of people. Meanwhile the runway is closing on both sides. I am really just trying to make connections but this is freaking exhausting.

As someone who’s been on many an interview panel, I've seen this happen more times than I can count: A candidate will write perfectly optimized, bug-free code. They'll design a scalable system on the whiteboard. Then I'll ask, "Tell me about your proudest project" … and they just list the tech stack. They don't tell me about how they dealt with a challenge, or their team dynamics. It's such a missed opportunity — because these soft skills are exactly how I choose between two equally skilled candidates. It's honestly an apt interview horror story (and the kind that's not talked about enough). But here’s a truth I also learned in my own journey 👇 ➡️ Your first organization is not your final destination — it’s your launchpad. That first company gives you something far more valuable than salary: The discipline of a professional environment 🕐 The understanding of real-world teamwork 🤝 The foundation of your coding, communication, and problem-solving skills 💻 The confidence that comes only when you handle real tasks and deadlines ⚙️ Trust me, your career graph doesn’t depend on what you start with — it depends on what you learn and how consistently you grow in those first few years. So if you’ve just started your journey at 3.5 LPA: 👉 Don’t compare yourself with someone who just started with MAANG companies. 👉 Don’t rush. 👉 Learn everything you can.
