Details of the Rockwell Automation's ControlLogix 5590 controller are now available. For lack of a better term, it is a beast. Some highlights include the dramatically improved performance: 2X Scan time improvement compared to ControlLogix 5580 controllers (that's a 40X improvement over ControlLogix 5570 controllers, if you're keeping score) 2X Increase in memory capacity with options available up to 80MB 2X Motion axis performance compared to ControlLogix 5580 controllers with support for up to 512 real and virtual motion axes Support for up to 600+ Ethernet nodes per controller 2X improvement for CIP Security-enabled applications Its hard to imagine an application that this controller can't handle.

Will the local Ethernet ports be available on a redundant system?

Will is be obsolete in 2 years?

What is the OPC-UA Capabilities? because 5580 are really short on that

I just want to be able to have more than 8 pens on my trend… that’s all I want.

So it's the same features and design from the last generation, which makes it already obsolete?

I hope to listen soon that we could download add-on in run mode

You olny forgot to talk abaout the the prices..... hehehe

What a beast.. Almost makes me want to come out of retirement… “almost!”

Isn't the future hardware-free, virtualused "plc" controllers?... Why limit yourself to built in obsolescent OEM cpu hardware... why not just virtualise it [the PLC OS], run as many "plc CPUs" on industry standard, powerful Intel [etc] based, centralised servers running eg VMware fully redundant ESXi etc, and use high response, distributed fieldbus systems? Just a thought.
