Claude AI is now the top U.S. free app after Anthropic rejected Pentagon demands. Anthropic’s Claude officially captured the number one spot on the U.S. Apple App Store’s free chart on February 28, surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The surge in downloads follows Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's decision to reject a Pentagon ultimatum demanding unrestricted military access, as the company refused to allow its models to be used for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. Consequently, the U.S. government canceled Anthropic's $200 million contract and labeled the firm a supply-chain risk, prompting a wave of public support from users who chose to boycott OpenAI after it subsequently secured its own Department of Defense agreement. #ClaudeAI #Anthropic #AppStore

Two weeks ago, Anthropic walked away from $200M. 24 hours later, Claude reached #1 in the app store. All because the Pentagon wanted them to cross a line they weren't willing to cross. Here’s the tea: Anthropic’s Claude was already embedded in classified military systems, but the Pentagon wanted full access with zero restrictions. Anthropic had two hard lines though: First, no mass surveillance of Americans. Second, no fully autonomous weapons. The Pentagon's response: Comply by Friday (February 27) at 5 p.m. or get labeled a "national security threat." Friday came. Anthropic didn't budge. And Trump reacted by banning federal agencies from using Claude. Meanwhile, OpenAI jumped at the chance to take Claude’s place only hours later, causing 1.5 million users to break up with ChatGPT. They all went to Claude, which is how the AI platform got its #1 ranking in the app store. I have to know… Do you back them too? Are you one of the 1.5 million users who’ve left ChatGPT for Claude? 👀

Claude is better than ChatGPT. That's a fact. Also, if you know me you know, I'm not an advocate for fully autonomous weapons. Tech should be used for good! Fact Checked by Claude: The core narrative is real and well-documented. But the post sensationalizes the timeline ("24 hours"), treats a pledge-site figure as verified data (the 1.5 million), and uses "national security threat" instead of the precise "supply chain risk" designation. Worth noting: as of this past weekend, Anthropic and the Pentagon have resumed talks, with Amodei reportedly meeting with Pentagon officials to explore whether a deal can be salvaged TheStreet — and Anthropic has now sued the Pentagon to block the blacklisting Fortune The story is still very much evolving.

ChatGPT boycott goes viral. Around 4 million people say they plan to stop using ChatGPT after OpenAI signed a deal allowing the U.S. Department of Defense to use its AI systems. The campaign, called “QuitGPT,” spread quickly across social media with users sharing screenshots of canceled subscriptions. The agreement allows the Pentagon to run OpenAI technology on classified networks. Critics worry the tools could be used for military, surveillance, or defense applications. Even with the backlash, ChatGPT still has over 900 million users worldwide, so the boycott represents a small slice of its global audience. Will actions like this actually slow down AI adoption? 🚫 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁 𝗔𝗜: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵 A massive backlash is brewing after OpenAI's controversial military contract. Are users really ready to pull the plug on the world's most popular chatbot over ethical lines? ⬇️ 📉 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗳𝗳 The controversy started when Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei refused to grant the US Department of Defence unrestricted access to its AI systems. Citing ethical concerns over 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 and 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀, the firm risked losing a lucrative 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 contract rather than loosening its safety guardrails. 🤝 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹 Hours after negotiations broke down, Sam Altman announced that OpenAI had swooped in and struck its own agreement to deploy models within 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀. This immediate pivot sparked outrage, with critics accusing the firm of putting 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆. 🛑 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵 In response, an online campaign known as QuitGPT has exploded, claiming that over 𝟭.𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 have taken action by canceling subscriptions. The movement is actively urging users to switch to 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿-𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻-𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 (like Claude or Gemini) while strictly advising against platforms like Grok. OpenAI stole Anthropic’s Pentagon Contract. Was it worth it? The Pentagon demanded Anthropic remove safeguards. Safeguards preventing mass domestic surveillance. And fully autonomous weapons. Anthropic refused on ethical grounds. OpenAI signs the deal the next day. By moving the safeguards from the model into the contract. The PR fallout was immediate. ChatGPT uninstalls surged 295% overnight. Downloads dropped 22%. One-star App Store reviews jumped 775%. Meanwhile Claude hit #1 on the US App Store. Downloads up 89% in a single day. Free signups up 60% since January. The increase in users even caused some downtime. Sam Altman spent the weekend in damage control. Answering questions on X. OpenAI won the contract. But Anthropic won the market.

if people vote their conscience then these tech bros can be taught some lessons but we still need more restrictions on their scope and actions
