Understanding GEO/AEO: Separating Fact from Theory

From PoC to a more stable reference: structuring LCA assumptions with semantic contracts A few days ago, I shared a first PoC around ORBIT, an initial exploration of how semantic technologies could help make life-cycle sustainability work more explicit and inspectable. Since then, I’ve continued refining the approach. Not by adding more concepts or features, but by focusing on what actually matters in practice: structure, clarity, and explicit assumptions. ORBIT builds on ORIONT, the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment ontology developed in the ORIENTING project. ORIONT provides a strong semantic foundation, but a practical question remains once we move toward operational use: How do we ensure that what we model, calculate, and report is structurally complete, consistent, and comparable before results are interpreted or published? Rather than extending the ontology, ORBIT explores a complementary layer: semantic contracts. Using SHACL, ORBIT makes key elements explicit and checkable: 🔹 LCA study integrity (functional unit, reference flow, system boundary) 🔹 controlled EF 3.1 metric identity 🔹 structurally comparable LCIA results 🔹 EPD-style reporting readiness The objective is not computation, automation, or certification. It is clarity. This work sits between methodology and implementation, a space where many comparability and governance issues actually emerge, but often remain implicit. ORBIT is still evolving, but this version already feels more stable than the initial draft. A parcel can be: • for sale • “available” • large • inexpensive • perfectly positioned on a map …and still be unusable for industrial AI. Because land is not a platform by default. Without entitlement, land cannot: • carry infrastructure at scale • align with power delivery timelines • withstand political pressure • survive multi-phase development • remain executable across election cycles Land without entitlement is inert. It looks like opportunity. It behaves like risk. This is the second failure mode: confusing ownership or availability with readiness. Entitlement is what converts land from a surface into a system. It is what makes land: • legal to activate • durable over time • defensible under scrutiny • usable by downstream industrial actors Without it, land is not infrastructure. It is only a suggestion. Really happy to share this piece published on DjuroAI. The core idea: AI is most useful when it lives close to the people and hardware doing the work. Small local models, not massive black boxes that only well-funded companies can access. This is what AI for good looks like. If we want AI to actually help people, whether in renewable energy or anywhere else, it has to be something they can understand, adjust, and run themselves. Not something handed down from the cloud. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗱 A fundamental shift has occurred in how authority operates online. Not because of platforms. Not because of algorithms. But because systems now interpret meaning before people do. Authority no longer belongs to the loudest voice or the most frequent poster. It belongs to the clearest structure. When meaning is coherent, systems can follow it. When systems can follow it, people find it. When both can find it, authority stabilizes. This is not a trend. It is a structural shift. Many experts are still trying to improve visibility through output. That worked when humans were the first readers. That world is gone. The center of gravity has moved from volume to coherence, from performance to architecture, from presence to pattern. You don’t need to do more to keep up. Know what the center of gravity is now. Some people will feel this immediately. Others will keep chasing what already stopped working. Both reactions make sense.
