Earlier I wrote about why disrupting telco with AI will change the world. Now let's talk business. If you're a telco CEO, why care about AI beyond Gartner hype? Telco is stuck in a stagnation loop. It's hugely profitable—until the music stops. First, telco requires massive capital: real estate, hardware, software, licenses, lawyers. Then you have to compete. When everyone offers similar unlimited data bundles, you compete on price. ARPU drops. Lower ARPU means less money to acquire users. Fewer users mean your expensive infrastructure runs inefficiently. Then 6G arrives with another massive bill. If you need hard numbers: Network opex: 10–20% reduction via automation. For a $5B-opex operator, that's $500M–$1B annual savings. Churn and ARPU: 50–100 bps churn reduction and 1–3% ARPU lift through personalization. On $10B revenue, that's ~$150–$400M impact. Capex deferral: 5–10% efficiency in planning, deferring $50–$100M on a $1B annual capex cycle. This cycle has run for decades without a real answer—until now.

🚀 AI in Telecom: From Outsourcing to Intelligent Innovation On October 1st, our CEO Yiannis Kanellopoulos joined forces with Werner Heijstek (Software Improvement Group) to discuss how AI is reshaping telecommunications, from shifting away from outsourced software development to driving in-house innovation. The fireside chat was part of Mobile telecom’s “AI in Infrastructure” conference and together they explored the symbiosis between telecom and AI: infrastructure enables AI, while AI transforms it. Key takeaways: - The push for AI adoption in Telecoms is accelerating faster than ever — driven by competition, efficiency, and customer experience. - The non-deterministic nature of AI systems demands new validation and governance approaches. - High-quality, well-managed data is critical to AI success. - Overreliance on AI-generated code increases risks like technical debt and security flaws. - Human oversight and disciplined engineering remain essential. Both concluded that AI systems aren’t magic — they’re engineered software products requiring sustainability, scalability, and accountability to deliver real business value. We highly recommend to check out the full firechat!
