The countdown to the Euros is on! ⚽   I do love the Euros - the camaraderie, the passion for your team to win, the 'togetherness', but as an entrepreneur who specialises in the sports and entertainment space, I can't help but admire the economic growth potential attached to the sporting event.   Think - ticketing, venues, local hospitality, accommodation, travel, merchandise, and that's not even mentioning the sponsorships and advertising deals that come with such a massive sporting event. The January transfer window is shortly coming to a close. Our recent research for The Player Care Group highlighted the potential financial impact for clubs for failed transfers. Key findings: - Failed transfers account for 31% of the total Premier League club transfer spend during 2021-2024 - Net loss of -€1.4B in failed transfers across Premier League clubs during the period - 44% of failed transfers were players aged 18-21 - Players arriving to the Premier League from overseas leagues in Europe, South America and Africa account for the greatest share of failed transfers For clubs, it is important that the right planning an conditions are in place to mitigate the risks of failed transfers. Our research suggests that about a third of failed transfers could be mitigated by effective player care (operational, personal development and wellbeing factors). Care and culture matter because: a) It optimises the chance for a club's investment to be a success b) It supports the athlete in what is a time of upheaval - affecting themselves and their families And these two values apply to all aspects of #SportsBiz, not just investors and athletes, because at professional level, often skills are high, with little difference to competitors. What increases chances of successful performance is the environment you operate within. The importance of care and culture can not be overlooked - the same values apply whether you are an athlete or a marketeer... In the 1988 games the author Rob Prazmark first time came out with the concept of TOP "The Olympic Programme" with an intention to raise funds. ☆ he did not worry that it was never tried before. He worked on it keeping interest of all global stakeholders of the Olympics in mind, carefully bundled the rights, clearly segregating it from advertisement time. 🌟 It was a new concept and never done before, still he pushed on with it ▪︎we can get great learning from this to put to use in our daily work about how to:- 1️⃣) carefully segment clients and approach right client with right product or offerings 2️⃣) successfully convince the clients 3️⃣) give maximum value for money to client even if it means going out of your way ☆ when American Express refused to enrol for the TOP, Rob had carefully segmented the entire credit card segment and so he methodically and swiftly approached other Relevant Clients: Diners Club, Discover, Mastercard and Visa All refused for the price he wanted ⚡ and then when Visa agreed, they got many more additional areas of value add including the concept of "exclusive payment partner" making them a long term supporter - so from late 1980's till recent renewal on till 2032, Visa has stayed as a loyal partner and at the Olympics no other cards are accepted!! This and many other examples and concepts such as using "Conversion Marketing" to get more wallet share while keeping overall budget or wallet size the same, were very useful learnings for me.
