MY NEW #BOOK is out! 🎉📘 "How to Survive (and Thrive) in Research" is now published. It distills over 20 years (yes… that many!) of lessons, mistakes, and the occasional success into something practical and (I hope) entertaining for anyone beginning their research journey. Across more than 150 pieces of #advice, I share the unspoken (and, you know me, sometimes slightly controversial) truths every junior #researcher should know to save countless hours of frustration, help navigate academic life , and make the research path more understandable and manageable. And I’m proud to say I’ve already sold my first copy… to my mom ❤️ (always the early adopter). If you want to get your own copy: 📘 Amazon: https://lnkd.in/e6TG2Wpw For updates, complementary material, and additional resources: 🌐 Book website: https://research-rants.com If you know PhD students, postdocs, or early-career researchers, I’d truly appreciate if you could share this post or pass the link along. 🙏 Excited (and relieved!) to finally share this with the community. #research #academia #phd #phdlife #phdchat #scientist #academiclife
For once I wasn’t the one modeling. I was the model. Huge thanks to my daughters for patiently taking a photo of me they deemed “acceptable". It took them a while (they said it was the "light" in the room, poor girls what a challenging I asked them to perform...)
Maybe interesting for University of Luxembourg (Anja Lenninger Laura S. ), or my former "homes" in #Nantes (MaSTIC Ecole Doctorale ECLIS) or Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Ferran Adelantado Freixer)
I have not read it yet but what success means and how to achieve it varies quite a bit among people, countries, institutions, fields etc. There isn’t one path to success and self-fulfillment. It is very much about introspection and discovering makes you tick and keeps you motivated.
These books are actually more valuable than the knowledge-focused ones. I couldn’t resist and just bought it myself, even though I’m not an early-career researcher! Looking forward to reading it.
Felicitaciones Jordi Cabot! Está muy interesante el libro.
Can I get a signed copy?
Congrats Jordi Cabot BTW - What do you mean by: "My rule of thumb: no more than one international trip per month."? taking 12 Int'l trip a year? or you also count going from CPH to Malmo - an Int'l trip!!!
Thanks Aaron David Conrardy Natarajan Chidambaram, PhD Julian Valline Christian Grévisse Mauro Dalle Lucca Tosi for helping me improve the book!
