What do Enneagram body types look like when they work with horses? Over the years I have spent working with horses, I have often kept the Enneagram in mind as I facilitate. In this video, I share insights about how the types show up in the pen, starting with Body Types 8, 9, and 1.
While these types are all rooted in their bodies, they show up differently, and the horses respond accordingly.
If you’re curious about how Somatic Enneagram work deepens this process in Equine Experiential Learning, join us live on March 6 at 12 pm Eastern / 9 am Pacific. Marion Gilbert and I will discuss the shifts that occur when we work with type through the body, with horses.

And we work with horses, with different people. Everybody has a dominant center of intelligence and they tend to use it, but they can also tend to overuse it or underuse it depending on what type they are. So I would say for the body centers, first of all, horses are always in their bodies. They're never not in their bodies. And so that's a really clear one for the horses and for us to spot. And I would say one of the types who is it uses their body center pretty strongly. And clearly the horse is very much respond very quickly to that. And with a lot of. Precision and understanding the other body type tends to underuse their center, this center. And I would say that those people, the horses love them, love them because they're they're kind. They're they're good to them. They don't push them to do things usually that's the challenge. And the horses really love to hang out with them and feel very safe because they always pick up, you know, are you a threat? They're prey animals. That's what they're looking for. And certainly one of the body types is not any kind of a threat to a horse by a long shot. And then the other body center type tends to be. Very precise in their movements and also very concerned about doing things the right way and will often ask questions like is this OK or is the horse OK? Or they'll notice details a lot with horses and they will be very conscientious about how they operate with them and want to get it right. And the horses feel that and they, they, they're fine with it. They're totally fine with it. They're just, it's just a different kind of a body center energy that's easy for us to see as facilitators.
