To Auto-Tune… or Not? This debate never gets old. Auto-Tune isn’t the problem. Over-reliance is. If your vocal needs heavy tuning just to survive the mix, the issue isn’t the plugin—it’s the source. Mic choice, mic technique, room, performance… that’s where the real magic (or problems) start. Great engineers don’t use Auto-Tune to fix everything—they use it to enhance what’s already working. Because here’s the truth: A great performance with light tuning will always sound more natural and powerful than a weak performance pushed through aggressive correction. That doesn’t mean don’t use it. It means use it intentionally. • Subtle correction for clarity? • Creative effect for style? • Trying to rescue a bad take?
