Here’s a change in my work that I don’t think gets talked about enough. It’s not that AI makes the art. It’s that the concept phase used to cost me something. I’d build one composition — maybe two if the deadline was kind — and that’s what the team or client saw. The other directions stayed in my head, unexplored, because there wasn’t time. Now I can put three or four real directions on the table in the time one used to take. The final pick is the same kind of decision it always was — my judgment, my eye. But it’s chosen against more alternatives, not fewer. That’s the part I’d tell any studio weighing this up: AI didn’t replace the creative call. It widened the set of options the call gets made from. Illustrators and concept artists — has it changed your ideation phase the same way, or differently?

I’m tired of seeing "PERFECT" AI images that all look the same. 🤖🚫 As someone who is obsessed with digital photography aesthetics and editing, I’ve realized that AI tools are actually quite "flat" until you add a human eye to them. When I’m working on creatives whether it's for work or a personal project, I’m not just hitting ‘generate.’ I’m obsessing over the details that make an image feel real: • The specific warmth of the lighting (too much and it looks like a cartoon). • The film grain and texture that makes a digital image feel like a memory. • The "mood" that a prompt alone can’t quite capture. At 23, I hear a lot of talk about AI replacing creators. But AI can’t replace taste. It can’t replace the way you see a sunset or the specific aesthetic you’ve spent years refining through your own lens. Earlier, we bought expensive cameras, learned editing software, color grading, transitions, rendering techniques - all just to tell one story visually. Now AI can generate cinematic visuals, edit footage, create voiceovers, animate scenes, and produce studio-quality content without needing massive equipment or years of technical learning. But here’s the real point - AI is not here to replace creativity. It is here to remove friction. The professionals who evolve will not be the ones working the hardest with outdated methods… They will be the ones who use AI to multiply their creativity, speed, and execution. Don’t get emotionally attached to old workflows just because they took years to learn. Every generation has its tools. The calculator replaced long manual calculations. Excel replaced physical ledgers. AI is simply the next leap. Use it. Enhance your craft with it. Build faster. Create bigger. Think wider. Because the future does not wait for people who are “comfortable” with old methods.

If AI can outperform 90% of graphic designers in two minutes — what's coming for the rest of us? I'll be honest. This post was supposed to be about something else entirely. I served as Alumni Marshal at the University of Miami Commencement 2026 last week. Standing in that same spot where I graduated 22 years ago, I found myself staring at a younger version of myself — naive, enthusiastic, about to head off to Harvard Law, completely unaware of the punches the world was about to throw. Those 22 years threw a lot of them. But they made me. I sat down to write about that. About time. About resilience. About what it means to walk the same stage twice, two decades apart. Then AI hijacked the post. I uploaded two photos to Gemini — my 2004 graduation photo and one from this week — and asked it to create a before-and-after image. I expected a basic collage. Maybe some labels. Clean but simple. What came back stopped me cold. I've hired a lot of graphic designers over the years. What Gemini conceived and produced was better than 90% of them — not eventually, not after endless revisions. In two minutes, on the first attempt. And this is increasingly where I find myself: I sit down to think about one thing, and AI humbles me, reminding me that the world is changing faster than I'm capable of processing it. AI will not “kill” art. But it will absolutely destroy the old assumption that technical execution = creative value. This image is a good example. It was generated from a Van Gogh-inspired context: an empty house, dramatic night sky, expressive brush movement, emotional loneliness, and the visual memory of post-impressionist painting. A few years ago, producing something like this would require years of painting discipline, stylistic study, composition control, and manual technique. Today, AI can generate it in minutes. That changes the art industry in a very serious way. **not on a production aspect. but on creativity one** The future problem is not whether AI can create beautiful visuals. It already can. The real question is: when everyone can generate a “masterpiece,” what still separates real creative value from mass-produced visual noise? My view is this: * AI will commoditize execution. * Prompting will become part of creative direction. * Taste will become more valuable than technique alone. * Originality will shift from “how well you draw” to “how clearly you think, frame, select, refine, and give meaning.” Artists who only depend on production skill may feel pressure. But artists, designers, and creative directors who understand concept, emotion, cultural context, brand language, and AI prompting will become significantly more powerful. The creative industry is not becoming less creative. It is becoming more strategic. The next generation of art professionals will not just be painters, designers, or prompt engineers. No, probably not, but we were (among other MUCH more important things ⚽️🌳🍺) … Before going to watch my beloved Nottingham Forest last week, I was chatting to my old friend, best designer I know, and (whether he likes it or not), mentor, Sy - about the ‘worry’ a lot of creatives have when it comes to AI. He said something which I believe is perfectly put: “The real risk for designers isn’t AI - it’s standing still while the tools evolve.” It’s not a threat, it’s opportunity. AI will not replace designers, it’ll only replace the ones who refuse to use it to their advantage. Education, experience, and skill cannot be replaced.
