We’ve all heard about how AI can help solve the “blank page problem”… but what else can it do? As instructional designers, AI isn’t new to us anymore. Many of us are using it to help generate ideas for learning outcomes, assessments, and content; but what about the less obvious use cases? The ones that make you stop and think, "Oh, that's clever." Here are just a few I’ve come across that really got me thinking: ✅Using AI to complete assignments: To spot which tasks are too easily "hacked" and may need rethinking for true critical engagement ✅Using AI to generate HTML code: To add interactivity and flair to course pages ✅Using AI as a peer review tool: So students can get formative feedback, iterate, and learn before submitting their final work 💬 I’m curious—what are the most unexpected or clever ways you’ve seen AI being used in instructional design? Whether it's saving time, increasing engagement, or re-envisioning assessments—I’d love to hear your insights. #InstructionalDesign #AI #EdTech #FreelanceID #WorkingOutLoud

AI can write content. But only you can craft learning. AI is great. But can we trust it completely? Not really. Sometimes it gets too creative and changes the whole meaning of what we intended. A single “smart” suggestion can flip the context upside down. But here’s the thing — as Instructional Designers, we don’t have to fear AI. We just need to use it wisely. AI can’t replace our thinking. But it can support it beautifully. Here’s how I use it effectively: 💡 Idea generation — when I need creative directions fast. 🧠 Scenario building — to brainstorm situations and choices. ✍️ Grammar & tone checks — to refine the language. 📄 Summarizing PDFs or requirement docs — saves hours! 🎨 Visual inspiration — generating concept art or layout ideas. 📊 Structuring learning outlines — when I need a starting framework. AI is not the Instructional Designer. You are. It’s your experience, logic, and empathy that turn data into learning. P.S. Use AI as your co-pilot, not your autopilot. What if your next course could truly inspire action — shall we design it together? #InstructionalDesign #LearningAndDevelopment #AIinLearning #eLearning #L&D #LearningDesign

Instructional Design is evolving. In the age of AI, it’s no longer just about creating content. It’s about coding the experience itself. Vibe Coding is the next step: designing tone, rhythm, and emotional flow so learning feels human, not machine-made. It’s how designers stay not just relevant, but essential. What if I told you that resisting AI in instructional design is like refusing to use a projector because you're great with a chalkboard? 📽️ Remember when we moved from printed handouts to e-learning? The fear was real. But the designers who adapted didn't lose their jobs—they became more valuable. AI won't design learning experiences. It can't feel the frustration of a confused learner or sense when motivation dips. You're the heart. AI is the hands. And together? Unstoppable. Want to stay ahead without losing your soul? Let’s learn and grow together—how are you using AI in your design process? 💡 👉 Share your tips, insights, or favorite tools in the comments. AI is getting smarter, not just at creating content, but at designing learning experiences with us. This week I’ve been testing AI copilots that don’t just draft slides or quiz questions, they help map outcomes to activities, detect gaps in storyboards, and even suggest adaptive branches based on learner behavior. That shift matters: we’re moving from “AI as a writing tool” to “AI as a design partner.” The real unlock isn’t speed, it’s design elevation: - Fewer blank-page moments - More time spent on strategy & pedagogy - Faster iteration with tighter alignment to outcomes As instructional designers, the opportunity is to stop thinking of AI as a shortcut and start using it as a second brain for design quality. Curious, are you using AI yet as a design partner, or only as a content generator?

L&D folks - AI is not taking your job. It is rewriting your job description. Last week, I talked to several instructional designers who think AI is coming for their jobs. AI is not (yet) a learning architect. It CAN (and does) output junk content that repurposes and hallucinates all by itself. It works well if a learning architect uses it to help: ⚙️ Design intelligent workflows ➕ Synthesize knowledge ( 😱 please doublecheck all sources and ⁉️ please use your own knowledge to question its synthesis!) 📦 Coach you to think outside your box 💲 How are you using AI to improve your L&D skillset and create measurable impact?

How AI Changed My Approach to Instructional Design - Over the past two years, I’ve used AI to build branching scenarios, repurpose legacy courses, and model ethical dilemmas in compliance training. But the biggest shift wasn’t technical—it was strategic. AI helped me move from content creator to experience architect. It challenged me to think about fairness, accessibility, and accountability in every design decision. AI has become a creative partner—not just a productivity tool. If you’re exploring AI in learning design, here’s my advice: ✅ Start small ✅ Document everything ✅ Design for equity ✅ Share what you learn Let’s build responsibly. Let’s build together. #InstructionalDesign #AIinLearning #EthicalAI #ScenarioDesign #LearningInnovation #ComplianceTraining #GenAI #AccessibilityMatters #DesignThinking #LearningExperienceDesign

What if one instructional designer could do the work of an entire production team...thanks to AI? I had a great conversation with Zhuoer C., Enterprise Account Manager at HeyGen. She explains how generative AI is reshaping instructional design and why AI avatars might just be your next co-creator. - Studio-quality video without the studio - Script, produce, and localize all-in-one platform - Easily translate content into multiple languages If you’re in L&D, instructional design, or just curious about the future of training content, this one’s for you. ✨ Leveling up with AI in Education & Training ✨ This week, I had the opportunity to attend a 5-day Professional Certificate program in Smart Instructional Design with Generative AI. It has been an eye-opening journey👀 —exploring how AI can reshape the way we design, deliver and scale learning experiences. From creating adaptive learning paths to generating engaging content, the potential is massive. 💡 Key takeaways for me: ✔️ AI doesn’t replace instructional designers—it augments creativity and efficiency. ✔️ Smart design is about aligning human expertise with AI-powered tools. ✔️ Continuous learning is essential to stay future-ready in education and business. I’m excited to bring these insights into practice and continue experimenting with how AI can create more personalized, impactful and accessible learning experiences. #AI #InstructionalDesign #GenerativeAI #LifelongLearning #ProfessionalDevelopment

AI isn't here to replace learning designers, but it is starting to expose the ones who’ve settled for dull templated, “click-next” elearning. All the while elevating the ones who focus on story, strategy and human behaviour. We peel back the hype around generative AI in L&D and ask, when the repetitive stuff gets automated, what makes great design stand out? If you’re designing learning experiences, ask yourself: Am I adding depth or just ticking boxes? 👉 Read more on the website: https://lnkd.in/eDqzXRgV #obliteratingmindnumbingelearning

It’s not easy coming up with new ways to keep learners engaged. After a while, the same activities can start to feel a little stale. AI makes it easier to brainstorm. You can get fresh ideas that fit your audience, your format, and the course you’re building. You don’t have to use everything it suggests, but even one idea can spark your creativity and lead to something better. And just like that, you’ve got more ways to keep learners active and involved. 🙌 Wanna learn how to use AI tools for instructional design? AI can be used to generate some initial content from given inputs, e.g., text, weblinks, or files. Tools like H5P Smart Import and Mindsmith are some examples of this. There is also Nolej which enables the creation of content from given inputs AND the creation of a chatbot for that specific content. Pretty cool application.
