We held a great event this morning serving as a capstone to our series, "The Ones to Watch: Advancing with AI," in partnership with Google. I sat down with Rep. Laurel Lee (R-Fla.), who emphasized the need for Congress and the private sector to work together to appropriately regulate artificial intelligence and prepare the workforce for an AI-powered world. I also chatted with Lisa Cohen Gevelber, founder of Google's economic opportunity initiative, Grow with Google, about the crucial role of AI and the importance of everyone learning to use the technology. Some key takeaways: 💡 On Medicaid & reconciliation: Lee said the House Energy & Commerce Committee could meet its targets without substantial cuts to the program. She said the panel may consider raising money through spectrum or cuts in other areas, like environmental programs, to reduce the impact on Medicaid. 💡AI & the Hill: Congress is notoriously slow to adopt new technology, but Lee said lawmakers are getting more exposure to AI and thinking through options for how it can help in interacting with the public. "That is one of the things I think is a real opportunity for us to modernize the way we think about how we help constituents," Lee said. From my fireside chat with Lisa Gevelber: 💡Power of AI: Gevelber said "everybody" should learn to use the technology. "I think AI can be a really powerful tool, whether you're trying to get stuff done faster in your day job or have it help you advance your expertise or creativity or productivity" she said. 💡Higher Ed & AI: As colleges grapple with how to approach AI, Gevelber said "I think the key thing is, don't ban the tools." She added that Google has created an AI course for teachers to learn how to use it to empower students and help them learn better. Check out the full project here: https://lnkd.in/eSwwpAXv

Thanks for the great conversation, Anna! I agree with Rep Lee that the opportunity and stakes are high to prepare the workforce for an AI-powered world. Not one sector can (or even should) do this alone -- I look forward to continued collaboration across gov't, edu, industries, and NPOs to help everyone learn to use AI.
