Globus Automates Data Management for APS and ALCF Polaris

At the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory, rapid data analysis powered by ALCF supercomputers is enabling scientists to adjust experiments on the fly, refine hypotheses, and make the most of their beam time. This capability, supported by tools like Globus.org, is also helping pave the way for new efforts under the American Science Cloud, a cornerstone of DOE's Genesis Mission. 🚀 Two weeks ago, I presented this poster at the ACTRIS conference. Many of us working with CCNc aim to go beyond CCN counts and actually characterize the particles that activate into cloud droplets. This is exactly what the DRAGON (Droplet Residual Analyzer for Ground-based Observations of Nucleation) system enables. 🔬 By coupling a CCN counter with a PCVI, we can directly analyze droplet residuals, giving access to the composition of truly activated particles. 📊 First field results show: - Strong variability at low supersaturation - 10% of CCN residuals are black carbon (rBC) 👉 A powerful approach to better link aerosol composition with cloud activation.

For the past several months, many of you have been asking what we’ve been building behind the scenes following the second Quantum Conference in Feb 2025 and our recent third Texas Quantum Economy Conference in Feb 2026 together with discussions on an alliance. The short answer: quantum infrastructure. We’ve been working with leaders across industry, universities, cities, national labs, cloud providers, and quantum companies to explore what it would take to build one of the country’s first regional quantum infrastructure ecosystems—starting in North Texas. That includes discussions around: • A metro quantum network testbed • Advanced fiber infrastructure • Industry use cases across defense, finance, healthcare, logistics, energy and security • Workforce development • Standards coordination • Private capital formation for deployable infrastructure This is still a work in progress—but many of you asked for more visibility into where this is headed.
