Eden’s birthday is approaching, and he’ll be getting a mobile phone. He’s about to turn 11 and will be heading off to secondary school soon, so from a practical point of view, it makes sense — we’ll need to be able to stay in touch. But if I’m honest, I feel a bit torn about it. As someone who works with tech every day, I almost feel hypocritical for not wanting him to have one yet. I know how useful technology can be… but I also know how easy it is to become a slave to our devices, and how many risks come with being online. He already spends plenty of time on the tech he has 😅 so boundaries will definitely be needed! The reality is, this is the way of the world now — so it’ll come with clear rules, especially around social media (which, ironically, I’m not exactly a fan of myself!). I think it’s all about balance — using technology as a tool, not letting it take over. It’s also about trust and openness. I’ll be explaining to Eden why the boundaries are in place, educating him on the darker side of devices, and then trusting that he can make the right decisions too 🤞 Thankfully, his school is also great. We recently attended a talk they arranged with two former police officers about the dangers of the internet for children… and it was a real eye-opener 😔 Parents — I know I won’t be the only one navigating this 💚 Tricky times. #ParentLife #RealLifeBusinessOwner #TechAndBalance #ModernParenting #BehindTheScenes
