This partnership strengthens MAIN’s mission to expand AI education and workforce readiness across Mississippi. With WCU’s integration of AI training into its programs, both students and educators will gain access to hands-on, practical AI learning. Through the Carey Institute for Excellence, working professionals will also have opportunities to engage with MAIN’s curriculum. As AI continues to reshape industries and communities, partnerships like this ensure Mississippi remains at the forefront of preparing learners for the future. El Camino College is proud to announce its selection to participate in the 2025–2026 Mentorship Program of the National Applied AI Consortium (NAAIC). This prestigious opportunity positions ECC among a select group of institutions nationwide working to expand access to AI education. NAAIC officially announced the selected colleges in its September newsletter. Through this nationwide program, ECC will partner with NAAIC to develop and launch an associate degree in AI, designed to prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in one of the fastest-growing fields in today’s workforce. We are proud to announce that the University of Crete (members of TALOS Lab) will coordinate the European project Teachers' Academy for AI Literacy, funded with €1.5 million under ERASMUS-EDU-2025-PEX-TEACH-ACA. This initiative brings together a strong consortium of 14 partners from 7 European countries – universities, teacher education institutions, schools, and research centres – united by a shared vision: to empower teachers across Europe with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate Artificial Intelligence in education. The project aims to establish a sustainable and innovative Academy that will offer specialized professional development programs for teachers, focusing not only on the technical aspects of AI but also on its humanistic, ethical, and social dimensions.

Earlier this year, we covered a story out of Nova Scotia about an AI avatar--in the likeness of Acadia Divinity College President Anna Robbins, but with the newfound abilities of a polyglot--that was conducting online lectures and grading students as part of an experiment. Robbins has since written an article for Maclean's that lends a bit more insight into the experiment and its broader implications for AI in education and the world beyond. SERU Symposium Day 1 Recap: Data, AI Experience, and Faculty/Student Support A dynamic afternoon focused on leveraging data for institutional impact and addressing the challenges of the modern university landscape. The initial session, "Case Studies: Using Survey Data to Drive Institutional Change," featured higher education leaders Brett Say, Liza Boritz, PhD, E. Scott Adler. They shared concrete examples of leveraging SERU and gradSERU data to enhance the student experience, including restructuring academic advising, fostering student belonging, and publicly sharing the survey data for broader campus engagement. Dr. Tricia Bertram Gallant (UC San Diego) delivered a crucial keynote on the student experience in the age of AI. Student voices from UC Berkeley added valuable real-world context, sharing their direct experiences with AI, highlighting both its strengths and limitations in their learning. Our day concluded with a panel discussion focusing on navigating uncertainty in Higher Education in the US and abroad. Panelists included UC Berkeley VPs Oliver O'Reilly and Lisa Garcia Bedolla, McGill's Josephine Nalbantoglu, and UNT's Brenda Barrio, Ph.D. A key theme was the imperative to support faculty and students during these tumultuous political and financial times. I’m thrilled to be joining global education leaders this week at the Reinventing Higher Education Conference, co-hosted by IE University and Imperial College London to discuss how AI+X is reshaping the future of learning and universities. Our panel, moderated by Kenneth Cukier from The Economist, will explore how artificial intelligence can augment human intelligence, not replace it, and how universities can reimagine the relationship between students, faculty, and intelligent systems. As we enter the era of Higher Education 4.0, one key question needs to be answered: Are we preparing critical thinkers who can question AI, or AI-dependent users who can’t?
