Data centers and Lionel Richie. Two monuments of power. Just To Be Close To You is arguably the strongest track ever recorded by The Commodores. But relevance to data centers? Stay with me. In Indonesia. developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are beginning to change the landscape of property demand, particularly for land and supporting assets for data centers. The surge in computing demand has driven this sector into a phase of massive expansion and is driving the hunt for strategic locations across various regions. Close proximity is key. And there's the rub, linking the demand for land in Indonesia to a 70s soul classic. According to CNBC Indonesia, the country's Ministry of Communication and Digital estimates the national data center industry will grow by around 14% annually until 2028, in line with the increasing number of internet users and digital activity. The World Bank even projects that demand for data centers in Indonesia will grow by up to 16.8% annually, underscoring the sector's long-term attractiveness to investors. Farazia Basarah, JLL Country Head for Indonesia, weighed in, "Going forward, strengthening infrastructure readiness (particularly in terms of electricity availability and clean water access), connectivity, and talent development will be key factors in ensuring Indonesia remains competitive as a data center investment destination in the region." In other words, for AI to thrive the just to be close to you drive will make a difference. https://lnkd.in/eNB4CWzu Vivin Harsanto; Rosari Chia; Jufiandi Junizir; James Taylor; Prisca Winata; Muhammad Yunus Karim; Milda Zainal Abidin; Jacintha Tabalujan Herzog; Michael Glancy; Celina Chua; Glen Duncan; Andrew Batson; Matt Landek; Daniel Thorpe; Kimberly Steele; Melissa Schastok; Jamie Obertelli; Allison Olp; Imran Khan; Elspeth Ng; Jesse Tron; Pamela Ambler; Kamya Miglani; Monika Korompis; Joey Ng; Nathapak P.; Xuan Pham

📢 Singapore has launched its second Data Centre Call for Application (DC-CFA2), making available at least 200MW of capacity – more than double the 2022 pilot allocation. The deadline for submissions is 31 March 2026. The DC-CFA2 marks an important milestone in Singapore's Green DC Roadmap, which aims to provide at least 300MW ⚡ of additional DC capacity. 🖥️ While sustainability 🍂 remains a core tenet by which proposals would be judged, what was interesting was that the use of AI 💻 has been specifically called out in this round (which is not surprising considering how AI has been seeping into our everyday lives). The Withers data centres team would be happy to speak with you if you would be interested in submitting a proposal.
