19 Years, Few Roles, One Journey: Rethinking What Growth Looks Like --- “You’re probably never planning to leave the company, right?” “Those people? They just stay in their comfort zone. Not like us—we’ve been jumping around for better pay!” “Old-timers with no growth mindset.” “She’s just seasoned—with the company.” “Wait, nearly 19 years here and still just a Lead?” --- Yup, I’ve heard all of that—more times than I can count. From people inside the company, outside, juniors, seniors… you name it. Some left, came back, and returned to better roles and better pay. That’s just how it is sometimes. But does that mean I’ve been stuck in my comfort zone all this time? Maybe, at few times... I remember years ago constantly asking new managers, “What more can I do for the company?” I genuinely wanted to contribute, but I wasn’t brave and bold enough to take big risks. Fear held me back. I wasn’t the most ambitious, just someone trying to do their best. But even though I stayed in one company, I didn’t stay still. I started out as a check-in counter agent, then moved to Lost & Found, transferred into ICT as a QA, took on the role of a Scrum Master, and QA Lead. Almost 19 years—and through all the transitions, I stayed. I adapted. I learned. I grew. No, I didn’t rise up the ranks at lightning speed. But I stayed resilient. I adjusted to changes. I kept going. That quiet growth matters too. And yeah, sometimes it did feel like I was just aging with the company. Not a glamorous thing to say—but honestly, that's how I feel. Then recently, a colleague shared something from the 7 Habits training that really hit me. It was about paradigm shift. How we see things—ourselves, others, situations—shapes everything. Often without us realizing it. We can’t control everything. But we can control how we look at our own journey. So when someone said I don’t have a growth mindset… yeah, it stung. But it also made me reflect. Maybe I didn't push through everything at my very best? Maybe I didn't fight for what I really want in life? What if growth doesn’t always mean climbing fast or changing companies? What if it also means sticking it out, being adaptable, supporting the team, riding through tough changes—and still showing up? That’s why I’m sharing this now. Maybe this post is the beginning of that shift. --- #CareerJourney #Resilience #GrowthInPlace #QA #Leadership #ParadigmShift #RealTalk Pic : Me with our QA Team and CTO during Riang Raya Celebration.
