“As familiar as the surface premise of Black Ink, White Paper is, the author succeeds in keeping us entirely invested in the developing love affair between the characters.” Chimezie Chika reviews JC Amaechi ’s novel, “Black Ink, White Paper”⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ezBk_pjZ

In the past decade, mystery novel readers have noticed a shift from the traditional detective story to something deeper, stranger, and more intimate. Bestselling authors no longer rely solely on plot twists or clever clues; instead, they are inviting readers into the minds of narrators whose version of reality may be uncertain, incomplete, or deliberately deceptive. Publishers have reported that novels with unreliable narrators fly off shelves faster than those with predictable points of view, and book clubs across the globe are buzzing about whose memory can be trusted and whose motives are cloaked. https://lnkd.in/drKkWcQ8

Humanoids has announced Haunted, a forthcoming graphic novel biography centered on Mary Shelley, the visionary author of Frankenstein. Created by writer-artist Koren Shadmi, the project shines a welcome spotlight on one of the most influential literary figures in history. Timed with Women’s History Month, the campaign blends literary legacy, pop culture relevance, and graphic storytelling in a way that feels both timely and enduring. For publishers, creators, educators, and comics professionals, this is a strong example of how graphic novels can honor major historical figures while reaching modern audiences in compelling new ways. #Publishing #GraphicNovels #Comics #MaryShelley #Frankenstein #Humanoids #Kickstarter #Storytelling Humanoids https://ow.ly/E2ys50YxXIu

DC’s Lobo #1 is a strong reminder that character-driven comics still win when creators fully embrace tone, identity, and visual personality. This debut leans hard into what makes Lobo iconic: excess, satire, violence, absurdity, and attitude. According to AIPT’s March 18, 2026 review, the issue succeeds because Skottie Young captures Lobo’s chaotic voice while Jorge Corona delivers highly inventive alien designs and explosive page energy. For readers, critics, and publishers alike, it’s a great example of how a bold creative direction can make a relaunch feel fresh while staying true to the core appeal of the character. It's always been a total nightmare trying to communicate cross-team in peer review platforms. A few weeks back I had a great chat with Research Exchange PMs Rebecca Windless and Bogdan-Alexandru Cochior to talk about how they've been building out conversation spaces in Research Exchange to enable frictionless collaboration between researchers, and crucially to give us ways to experiment with these journeys, unsilo conversations, and start exploring smart new ways to empower researchers to work together As always, Blumsom Naomi and Samuel J. are to blame for making this look really nice and for being enablers of me talking a lot. Some of our team will be at the LBF next week, reach out and come talk!
Behind every manuscript is a conversation. 💬 Our Conversation Tool brings those conversations into one place, helping editors communicate easily and collaborate across every manuscript they handle. Join Sam Parker, Rebecca Windless, and Bogdan Cochior for a peek behind the scenes. 🔗 https://ow.ly/kT3150YmYpj #EditorsLens #AcademicPublishing

Many novels lose readers for one simple reason: the story breaks its own rules. When readers understand the logic of your fictional world, they’ll follow you anywhere — magic systems, alien planets, impossible technology. But once those rules are established, you have to stick to them. This post breaks down the #1 rule novelists should never ignore and why it matters for keeping readers immersed. Proud to have written this piece about the risks we take when we rely on generative AI to do our thinking for us, and how each machine-generated story (generated from stolen human labour, of course) threatens the erosion of our intelligence and our children's imaginations. Short version: quit your GenAI addiction, for your own sake and your children's!
'The stories being generated for children nowadays, both by their well-meaning grown-ups and via the thousands of AI-generated ‘books’ available on online retailers, lack the nuance, complexity, warmth, and truth of human-written stories... They are, simply put, not good enough for our children'
