Horrifying ruling out of the 4th Circuit. An all-Republican 4th Circuit panel has just ruled that states can compel trans adults to "appreciate their sex" by enacting care bans. It even directly says that trans adult care bans are legal in the ruling. Subscribe to support our journalism. https://lnkd.in/errp5Q24

LinkedIn needs a reaction for horror or deep disappointment. Sometimes you want to support the person sharing difficult news without appearing to “like” the news itself. It’s heartbreaking to see so much time, money, and outrage directed at a small, marginalized community simply trying to live as their authentic selves.

Im sorry this is psychotic at this point. We are less than 1% of that entire country. The only thing you can call this is systemic genocide

"And it is not irrational for a legislature to encourage citizens “to appreciate their sex” and not “become disdainful of their sex” by refusing to fund experimental procedures that may have the opposite effect." This may be the most absurd sentence I have read in a long time.

We're almost at the END of that "and then they came for me" poem, for anyone playing along at home

I don't even know what to say anymore. Cruelty is the point. They don't care if people die because of this.

As a gender therapist this is horrifying and scary for us as therapist because they are also attacking how much care we can legally give our clients.

I find this part especially interesting: "But cisgender people do not seek gender-affirming care for gender dysphoria." Because really this ruling means a ban on all gender-affirming care for cisgender people, and cisgender people DO get gender-affirming care. That's what all plastic surgery is. That's what hair implants are. That's what treatment for gynecomastia is. That's what a mastectomy after cancer is. All of it has to be illegal if transgender care for gender affirmation is illegal now. And I sincerely hope they enforce it accordingly. Some plastic surgeons whose *entire* livelihoods have just been taken away would fight that. "Of the 151 breast reductions among cisgender male minors and [transgender and gender diverse] minors, 146 (97%) were performed on cisgender male minors" https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11211955/

So how soon before we no longer believe in medical sciences?

“It is not irrational for a legislature to forgo Medicaid coverage of arguably ineffective and dangerous procedures and allocate its limited resources to covering other treatments." The State of Washington did this math around 2014 and found that it is exponentially cheaper to provide gender-affirming care than to deny it.

It's also so ridiculous that we are here. Any being from another planet would be so befuddled to observe all this (unsupported) effort of legislators, judiciary actors, and executive leaders to further repress less than 1% of a population (any percent makes no sense) to no improving effect on the lives of anyone. This ruling--all these anti-trans/genderqueer policies and rulings--do NOTHING to make any child or adult safer from infection, hunger, or cold. They do nothing to make food and housing more accessible. They bring no joy. So what when trans people are forced into lives they don't want? So what? Is anyone less hungry? Is anyone more able to purchase fuel for their car to get to work or pick their kid up from school? Does anyone have more access to high-quality health care? No. Anti-trans policies and rulings are pathetic, dangerous distractions from the truth: White supremacy, couched as "states rights" and "traditional values" and "family values," inflicts suffering and kills; it starves us. Someone else's misery does not protect me. It never has.
