I let an AI write my code. It compiled perfectly on the first try. I looked at the screen and felt like a fraud. You compare your human brain to a machine. The code you are writing is for the developer who has to debug it at 3 AM next year (Which will probably be you). We love showing off. We use ternary operator chainings that are 5 levels deep. We write one-liners that look like abstract art. Stop it. Clever code is bad code. If I can't understand what a function does by looking at it for 5 seconds, it’s too complex. Computers can parse anything. The real challenge is making your code readable to humans. If you need a long comment to explain the syntax of what you just wrote, you need to rewrite it more simply.

You can't just "vibe code" your way out of a bug or issue in programming. Most times, The more you try to fix a problem through vibe coding, more the problems you introduce. (even though that particular problem might be fixed temporarily) If you don't understand what your AI does, It will be too late once you realise that it generated a lot of unnecessary code. Are you writing Hero code? Writing "clever" code is just an ambush you set for your future self or the unfortunate colleague of yours. The general rule of good programming is to write "easy to read code that can be maintained easily". The urge to show our creativity by building monuments to our own intelligence should be suppressed. Write the code that a tired engineer can understand in the middle of the night. Yes, AI makes understanding legacy code easy but it won't clarify or justify the reasoning behind it. History doesn’t repeat itself — but it rhymes. • 1940s: ENIAC didn’t replace human “computers” (mathematicians); it transformed them into the world’s first programmers. • 1950s: Compilers didn’t kill coding jobs. They lowered the barrier to entry and launched the software industry by freeing engineers from writing tedious machine code. • 2020s: AI isn’t here to replace software engineers — it’s here to elevate us. In my view, we’re shifting from focusing on details to mastering the abstraction of system design. The job isn’t disappearing. It’s moving up the stack.
