The technology was never the problem. At least that's been my experience — shaped by years of being in these rooms. After years of delivering supply chain transformation programs, I have consistently observed similar patterns across industries, technologies, and organizations of all sizes. I have hesitated to share these insights, but I believe they are worth discussing. If even one person finds this useful, it will be worth the conversation. I have entered engagements where everything appeared correct on paper: scope defined, resources assigned, timeline approved, and leadership aligned. Yet, within weeks, cracks would emerge. Common issues included: - Consultants knowledgeable about the technology but lacking understanding of the business context. - Requirements gathered by individuals familiar with the old process rather than the future state. - Subject Matter Experts assigned based on availability rather than expertise. - A lack of clarity on what "done" actually meant, leading to unforeseen gaps. By the time these issues surfaced, the damage was often done—schedules slipped, budgets stretched, and client confidence eroded. I have witnessed this across various Kinaxis RapidResponse programs and SAP implementations, including IBP, S/4HANA, SAC Planning, Datasphere, Cloud ALM, and RISE with SAP. Different technologies, yet the same story. Precision matters in supply chain transformation. The wrong expertise, even slightly mismatched, can cost significantly more than getting it right from the start.
