I’ve been quiet on here this week because I’ve just come back from two weeks in Brazil celebrating Rio Carnival. 🎉☀️ No laptop. No emails. The first time I’ve properly switched off for longer than two days in a long time. It was a completely different pace of life - being outdoors, hiking, sun, meeting people from all across the globe, and a huge highlight of having fresh coconuts on the beach every day. 🤩 While I was away, I read something about athletes building rest into their training plans and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. They understand that recovery isn’t separate from performance, it’s part of it. The right rest at the right time = better performance. Yet in our world, we don’t really see it like that. We’re always switched on. If we’re not working, we’re thinking about work, or talking about work. A lot of the time we only really stop when we have to, not because we’ve chosen to. What I noticed coming back this week is that I feel lighter and clearer. The decisions I need to make - some of which would usually send me into overthinking mode - don’t feel as heavy or complex as they did before I went. Nothing really changed, but space created the time to reset and reflect. So if you haven’t properly switched off in a while, this is your nudge to get some space to yourself. And if this kind of reflection resonates, I write more about mindset, leadership and the patterns behind our decisions every in my LEADERS newsletter.
