We are pleased to present the research work of Mr. Ravi Singh, Visiting Faculty at Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics and Research Scholar at Smt. MMK College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai. His paper, “A Study of Enhancing Financial Inclusion: The Role of Insurance Sector in India,” explores how the insurance industry acts as a catalyst for financial inclusion and social protection. Using data from 2001–2022, the study highlights that insurance penetration in India has grown from around 2.3% to 4.1% of GDP, while the number of insured individuals has increased from approximately 100 million to over 500 million. ⚠️ Concern on IIB Rating Violation – Request Immediate Regulatory Attention I wish to draw the attention of IRDAI and Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) to an ongoing issue in the industrial insurance market. At The Malegaon Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., all insurers have quoted around ₹1.19 Cr + GST for Fire / IAR insurance as per IIB rates (post 1 Jan 2025 “no-discount” guideline). However, Oriental Insurance has reportedly offered a ₹85 L + GST quote for the same risk — indicating a discount below IIB-prescribed levels. Insurance and innovation — two words that were rarely used together. But that’s changing fast. Today, the insurance industry is emerging as a leader in AI adoption, product innovation, and customer-centric transformation.
