Introducing the lab sponsors for the Databricks Grounded Reasoning Cup at #DataAISummit 2026: Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind. Each lab is partnering with leading academic teams to build agents that tackle grounded reasoning over complex government data using the latest models and tooling. Swipe through to meet the teams, see the agents they’re bringing to the competition, and join us as they push the boundaries of enterprise AI reasoning live on stage! 🏆

Grounded reasoning over messy government data as the benchmark format is a smart call — it forces models out of synthetic eval mode and into real-world conditions where the data isn't clean and task boundaries are fuzzy. The Anthropic/OpenAI/GDM matchup at DataAISummit will be a useful signal for which architectures actually hold up under those constraints.

An answer is only as valuable as the reasoning behind it.

The governance angle is the part that stands out—grounded reasoning over government data only becomes useful in practice when the evaluation setup keeps provenance, permissions, and traceability close to the workflow.

Pairing leading AI labs with academic teams around grounded reasoning is a strong format. Complex government data is a great testbed for evaluating accuracy, context, and trustworthy agent behavior.
