During the ANS Winter Expo, I had the opportunity to speak on the second Maritime Panel, where we explored how nuclear propulsion can be implemented within today’s regulatory landscape. In my remarks (titled: "So you want to put a reactor on a ship..."), I discussed the US licensing and oversight processes that are in place and discussed the significant challenges that need to be adjusted. I also highlighted the differences between U.S. and U.K. licensing and oversight frameworks (given the recent nuclear corridor), and discussed what future regulatory harmonization will be needed to ensure safety, security, and safeguards as nuclear technologies move into maritime applications. It was an energizing discussion with industry and academia who are all equally committed to advancing safe and scalable nuclear solutions for the maritime sector. Excited to see this dialogue continue as we build the regulatory foundations for the next generation of nuclear-powered vessels.

The US Army has unveiled its Janus Program - a next-generation nuclear initiative aimed at delivering resilient, secure energy to defence installations - with the first microreactors targeted for operation by 2028.

L&T formalized nuclear equipment manufacturing with Holtec and military drone production with General Atomics, positioning for India's ₹20,000 crore nuclear expansion and defense contracts despite trading at 35x earnings.

Army installations will have operating nuclear microreactors starting in the fall of 2028. The addition of nuclear power will diversify the energy sources available on military bases and provide a critical enhancement to their resiliency. ☢️ https://lnkd.in/e_K_-Yp3

Reliability ✔️ Performance ✔️ Sandia engineers, along with National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), conducted a series of stockpile tests in which inert units of the B61-12 nuclear gravity bomb were successfully carried and dropped by an F-35 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in evaluating the weapon’s performance. “These B61-12 F-35A stockpile flight tests and captive carry flight test were the capstone accomplishment of a tremendous amount of planning and effort by those who were involved across not only Sandia, but many other agencies,” said Sandia’s Jeffrey Boyd, surveillance lead for the B61-12 and B61-13.
