Do you know your EARS are usually more reliable than your eyes? And if you need to proofread without being able to print out your text, this fact can HELP you! Ask your computer to read your text aloud to you. Your ears will catch mistakes right away -- ones that your eyes might have missed. If you're on a Mac, like me, here are instructions on how to set it up: ✅ Step 1: Enable Text to Speech in macOS (Sonoma) Go to Apple Menu → System Settings Scroll down to Accessibility Click Spoken Content Turn on “Speak selection” You can choose a voice (e.g., “Siri Voice 2 - American”) and adjust the speaking rate. ✅ Step 2: Use It in MS Word Highlight the text you want to be read aloud in your Word document. Right-click (or Control + click) the selection. Once you’ve enabled Spoken Content, you can also use a keyboard shortcut: Default is usually Option + Esc (⌥ + ⎋) to start speech If you're on a Windows device, please ask Google or AI to give you instructions. ✍️ Have you ever had your computer read aloud to you? ♻️ Share this tip if it hits home

Tech Tip Tuesday: Use Clipboard History to Copy and Paste Multiple Items Tip: Your computer can remember more than just the last thing you copied. Clipboard history lets you store and access multiple copied items at once. Why it matters: It saves time, reduces frustration, and makes multitasking easier, especially when working with text, links, or images. Example: On Windows 10/11, press Windows + V, then turn on clipboard history when prompted. After that, press Windows + V anytime to view and paste from your clipboard list. On Mac, try free apps like Flycut or Paste to manage multiple clipboard items.

Following on from my post re: using a Mac yesterday evening, hear are just some reasons I prefer this over Windows and third party screen readers. 1. The process of setting up a Braille display is much more intuitive and, just works; 2. You have the ability to set specific voiceover configurations for individual apps, utilising all kinds of settings; 3. You can actually use the trackpad, rather than being tied to a keyboard. 4. Voiceover actually doesn't crash; 5. Its much easier to start and stop VO if needed; I'm sure there are countless other reasons i've forgotten, i'll add them as and when I remember. As ever, comments / observations welcome.

Why Linux phones are worth using * No built-in Google or Apple tracking. * Hardware kill switches let us physically cut off mic, camera, Wi-Fi, and baseband modem. * Open-source software means we can audit the code instead of blindly trusting it. * We as users own our phone — not the vendor. No forced updates, bloatware, or ads. * We as users choose the operating system, desktop environment, and apps. * Root access is standard, not something we have to "hack" into. * Some Linux phones are modular and easy to repair. * Mainline Linux support means devices can stay usable for 10+ years, long after Android/iOS devices are abandoned. * Many Linux phones can act as a mini-PC: plug into a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and we have a desktop. * Apps like Firefox, LibreOffice, and GIMP run in their full desktop form. * Users and developers work together instead of following a corporation’s roadmap. * Problems and bugs are discussed openly, and fixes are shared. * We get to shape the software ecosystem, not just consume it. My friend Robin Haug from Volla Systeme GmbH can help us get our first Linux phone Enjoy #linux
