I’m pleased to share the latest edition of Supply Chained. This week I had the opportunity to speak with Fareen Mehrzai, Senior Director Analyst at Gartner® and chair of the Gartner Supply Chain Symposium/Xpo™ Conference. Our conversation focused on the big themes shaping today’s supply chain landscape, from agentic AI to tariffs and geopolitics to the realities of building an augmented, connected workforce. What stood out most to me is how supply chain leaders are being pulled in several directions at once. They need to understand what AI can really do, adapt to ongoing trade disruption, and help their people succeed through all of it. That’s why I found this conversation so valuable, and why I think this topic is especially timely right now. For now, you can join the conversation by checking out our interview in the newsletter. Looking forward to continuing the conversation during the event on May 4-6 in Orlando. ~Mr. Supply Chain® #AlwaysBeLearning #SupplyChain #SupplyChained
We were thinking of similar themes this morning, Daniel! Evidence?... Tom Linton (thanks Rob) came up in both places! .... https://www.linkedin.com/posts/shillingford_ai-is-moving-into-the-physical-supply-chain-activity-7442532194943901696-kioC - look forward to seeing you at Gartner SC!
Daniel Stanton, DBA Great post, Daniel. The convergence you’re highlighting between AI, trade turbulence, and shifting operating models is exactly where the real strategic pressure is building. What stands out to me is how these forces are no longer isolated. AI is accelerating decision-making while trade volatility is compressing timelines, and together they’re forcing supply chains to move from reactive to adaptive systems in real time . I’ve been exploring this intersection deeply in my newsletters, The Customer and The Supply Chain Customer, where I focus on how these shifts don’t just impact operations — they directly impact customer experience and revenue outcomes. What I’m seeing consistently: • Execution gaps in the supply chain show up first at the customer level • AI is amplifying both efficiency and risk at scale • Trade and geopolitical shifts are turning stability into a competitive advantage The companies that connect these dots — supply chain execution, customer experience, and revenue — are the ones that will outperform in this environment. Appreciate you continuing to elevate this conversation.
Global trade dynamics, tariffs, and geopolitical instability were defining themes at this year’s event. That aligns closely with what many supply chain teams are facing today: pressure to redesign networks, rethink sourcing strategies, and build resilience into decisions that were once driven mainly by cost efficiency. For many organizations, the time to act is now.
Daniel, your analysis of current supply chain challenges is spot on. It's truly inspiring to see how leaders are navigating this complex terrain. Perhaps the key lies not just in reacting to change, but in creatively weaving resilience into the very fabric of our operations, like building adaptive systems that can pivot with the speed of market shifts. Focusing on this proactive ingenuity can unlock new avenues for growth.💯🔥🎧🎙️
I appreciate your perspective, Daniel. With everything supply chain teams are juggling right now, it feels like a coordination challenge as much as a technology one. It’s hard to move quickly when people and systems aren’t aligned around the same picture of what’s actually happening. Would love to hear how the conversation evolves during this year’s Symposium.
Appreciate the insights Daniel Stanton, DBA. Leveraging AI to improve coordination (Choudary's HBR article) is particularly incisive. With org. age comes more need for "translation" between systems, work processes, and tools. AI provides a lot of help here.
The real challenge isn’t just keeping up with change anymore. It’s keeping your team sane while doing it. Great conversation.
It will be quite interesting to see what agentic AI is capable of doing at this point and beyond for supply chains.

6dThis is a great breakdown of the forces shaping supply chains right now. What stood out to me is the shift toward agentic AI and how much of the real value comes from improving coordination across functions, not just automation. The point about tariffs and geopolitics driving network redesign also resonates. These disruptions show up immediately in commercial operations, esp. in sales and quoting. Really appreciate the focus on integrated operating models rather than isolated tools. It’s exactly where the industry needs to go.
