On Wednesday, I published the third article in a three-part series by the Arkane Editorial Voice newsletter, covering key insights every author should know when publishing their book. For those who prefer not to read long articles during a busy week, here is the first of three short videos introducing the main highlights from each newsletter. It's a no-brainer; there is prestige, and you'll find major advantages in bookstore distribution, sales and marketing funding when deciding on a traditional publishing contract, but before signing on the dotted line, there are some important considerations to be aware of. This video highlights these critical points. If you’d like the full professional read, just hit Subscribe on my Arkane Editorial Voice newsletter (link below) — you’ll be notified whenever a new article is released. Today's writing prompt asks: What does your character see through the window? The window itself creates natural distance—your character is separated from what they're observing. I took a simple scenario and wrote it in first, second, and third person, and the results were fascinating. This exercise reveals how POV choice affects not just voice, but emotional proximity and reader engagement. When you're building your author brand and connecting with readers, understanding these craft nuances can transform how your work resonates—and how you talk about your process. I'd love to hear which point of view works best for you in this specific situation, where distance is already built into the scene. #WritingCraft #AuthorBusiness #PointOfView #FictionWriting #WritingCommunity
