As waitlist registrations grow for our new ai agent platform, I'm focused on Go-To-Market strategy. This talk by @elanaverna on competitive moats in the AI era is well worth a watch. Elena's thesis: traditional growth playbooks are breaking. SEO is collapsing as people use ChatGPT for(re)search. And Product differentiation is evaporating as AI helps anyone build competing features. Build product loops. Scoring our strategy against the six moats Elena said actually matter now: Velocity - Our proprietary infrastructure mesh means we ship features fast that others can't replicate. This is a seriously strong moat for us. Data – Great features, agents with huge context memory and learning ability should create stickiness. But signs of defensive tactics by prominent SaaS companies to restrict access to their api's has me thinking. Brand as product – This one's timely. We've been obsessing over creating an amazing UX for business users - but does our chosen brand name reflect that? it's something we're testing more this week - watch this space. Ecosystem – Our marketplace is built for partner distribution. The foundation's solid, we're going to start with lots of pre-built integrations, and build a partner framework quickly as we get traction. Founder socials – Not a coincidence I'm more active on LinkedIN. Been using our own ai agents to help me do more with less—eating our own dog food. Creator economy – YouTube matters. We're planning some spend whilst trying to maximise organic reach through third-party creators. --- We're doing many things right, still figuring out plenty. But Elena's core point resonated: traditional funnels are dead - focus on product loops and defensible moats. Launching soon. Happy National Pasta Day. Three ingredients applied consistently beat 47 ingredients used randomly. Pasta perfected over centuries uses flour, water, and technique. Marketing operations work the same way. I used to do this too. When budgets are tight and the workload feels crushing, you grab every free tool that promises to lighten the load. New AI writing assistant that says it'll save you 10 hours a week? Sign up immediately. Another project management platform everyone swears will simplify everything? Add it to the pile. Before I knew it, I had seventeen browser tabs permanently open. Twelve free AI tools I'd tried once. Eight platforms I never learned properly because I was already chasing the next promise. The problem wasn't the tools. The problem was I wasn't spending time reading reviews, watching demos, or honestly assessing whether each tool actually fit my needs, abilities, and available time to learn it. McKinsey (January 28, 2025) reports most organizations investing in AI aren't getting expected returns—not because the tools don't work, but because they lack clear strategy and implementation systems. Here's what my experience has taught me. Teams producing consistent results don't have more tools. They have better systems for three core categories: content creation, scheduling, and basic analytics.
