yesterday i saw emil’s shared modal morphing effect and wanted to see how it feels with framer motion + a hand-rolled modal instead of radix/shadcn. in code it’s basically one `LayoutGroup` wrapping both the list and the modal, and then shared `layoutId`s for the bits that should morph: the avatar, title, description, and category. in the list i render each row as a `motion.button` with something like: 𝚕𝚊𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚝𝙸𝚍="𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚖-𝚒𝚖𝚊𝚐𝚎-${𝚒𝚍𝚡}", 𝚕𝚊𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚝𝙸𝚍="𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚖-𝚝𝚒𝚝𝚕𝚎-${𝚒𝚍𝚡}", etc, all using the same spring config { 𝚝𝚢𝚙𝚎: "𝚜𝚙𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐", 𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚏𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚜: 𝟹𝟶𝟶, 𝚍𝚊𝚖𝚙𝚒𝚗𝚐: 𝟹𝟶 }. when an item is selected, the modal header renders those same pieces again with the exact same `layoutId`s, so framer just animates between the two layouts without extra keyframe logic. the modal shell itself is pretty barebones: `AnimatePresence` for mounting/unmounting, a fixed backdrop with bg + backdrop, and a content wrapper that does a scale + opacity + width animation on open/close. inside that, i drop the details text and an embla-based Carousel for previews. overall it’s mostly layout + state wiring, the magic is just the shared `layoutId`s doing the heavy lifting for the morph. #framer #motion #morph

Each pixel here is not just a texture, but an individually animated element, driven through a parametric setup to respond to the original footage. The process involved creating an animated cloner system and using shader-based controls to guide how each element behaves, moves, and appears on screen.
