Seven days ago, IBM Cognos 11.2.x lost standard support. Most teams didn't mark the date. They just woke up to a quieter, more expensive reality. No new fixes. No new features. A support model that costs more every quarter you stay. Here's what nobody says out loud: the longer you wait to migrate, the more it costs. Not because the work gets harder - because the risk compounds in the background. Until one day a dashboard breaks and there's no one left to fix it. Cognos 12 changes the equation. - Agentic AI - An assistant that actually reasons - Decisions in minutes, not days At Codenatives, we've migrated teams across North America, Europe, and APAC. Certified architects. Zero disruption. ~40% less than the big SIs. Still on 11.2.x? Let's talk before your next renewal. 👉 codenatives.com #IBMCognos #Cognos12 #DataAnalytics #BusinessIntelligence #DigitalTransformation

Report Bursting in IBM Cognos is one of those capabilities that quietly handles complexity at scale. It takes a single report and intelligently distributes tailored outputs to the right stakeholders based on predefined logic like region, department, or role. What makes it powerful is not just automation, but control ensuring the right data reaches the right people without manual intervention or BI dependency for every cycle. In large enterprises, this translates into faster distribution, reduced operational effort, and more structured reporting flows across teams. Spent some time today reflecting on how much of data/reporting work is really about information flow, not just reports or storage. The longer I work in SQL, SSRS, ETL, integrations, & operational reporting, the more I see that the real challenge is building reliable pathways between systems, business rules, & the people who need usable information from them. Good reporting is not just “does the query run?” It’s: Is the data trustworthy? Does it reflect operational reality? Can people actually use it to make decisions? Can the process be maintained & understood over time? A lot of the most important work happens in the invisible layers: transformations, orchestration, validation, troubleshooting, integration logic, & reducing ambiguity between systems. Intelligence is ultimately about the knowledge we can access. Still learning. Still refining. Still simplifying wherever possible. “The hallmark of expertise is no longer how much you know. It’s how well you synthesize.” — Adam Grant #SQLServer #SSRS #ETL #DataEngineering #AnalyticsEngineering #BusinessIntelligence #Snowflake

Every organization has a different BI destination. The migration approach should be consistent regardless of where you are headed. SQR was built for a different era of reporting. As organizations scale, the limitations become harder to ignore. Rigid architecture, limited integration capabilities, and growing dependency on legacy infrastructure introduce risk at every level. The longer SQR stays in your stack, the more it costs to maintain, support, and scale. The good news? SQR reports can be accurately converted to any modern BI platform — Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Fabric, or any destination your organization chooses, without losing a single business rule or calculation. Platform flexibility. Business logic intact. Outputs you can trust. Get Your Free POC Today at dataterrain.com Have you migrated from SQR? Which platform did you move to? When working with Cognos reports, not knowing the underlying schema can slow down troubleshooting and impact data accuracy. In IBM Cognos Report Studio, identifying the schema behind a query item or data field is essential for validating data sources, debugging issues, and ensuring report reliability. S-Square Systems provides a clear, step-by-step method to trace the schema using the Lineage feature, allowing teams to view both business and technical metadata for any report item. By navigating to the Source tab, selecting a query item, and reviewing its lineage, teams can identify the originating data source and trace it back through Cognos Administration to the exact schema. For CIOs, BI leaders, and analytics teams, the outcome is clear: improved data transparency, faster issue resolution, and stronger governance across reporting environments. If your organization relies on Cognos for enterprise reporting, this guide provides practical steps to trace schema details efficiently. Most posts about Cognos 12 lead with the same buzzwords - AI-powered, intelligent, modernized. Fine. But that's not how anyone actually decides to migrate. Picture a normal Tuesday morning at any mid-size company running Cognos. 8:47 AM. The VP of Sales pings the BI team: "Need pipeline by region, broken down by deal size, before the 9 AM exec call. Can you pull it?" On 11.2.x, that's 30-60 minutes of manual work - pull the report, adjust filters, build a new view, cross-check, export, send. The exec call often starts without it. On Cognos 12, the same request goes through the Cognos Assistant. Natural language in. Structured answer out - with the logic explained. Minutes, not hours. Done before coffee. It's not that Cognos 12 has AI. It's that the AI removes the friction between a question and an answer. Your team isn't slow. The tools are. 20-minute walkthrough call, no pitch. DM me "Cognos." We'll get something on the calendar. #IBMCognos #Cognos12 #DataAnalytics #BusinessIntelligence #EnterpriseAI

It rarely starts with a big issue. A small workaround here. A performance delay there. A report that takes a little longer than it should. Over time, your IBM Planning Analytics and Cognos Analytics environment becomes harder to trust and more difficult to optimise. That’s where a Health Check helps you step back. You get a clear, structured view of your environment - what’s working, what’s not, and what needs attention. From quick wins to longer-term optimisation, you’re left with a roadmap to move forward with confidence. Better decisions start with understanding what’s really going on – explore your set-up: https://lnkd.in/ewTWX8R7 #IBM #DataHealthCheck #PlanningAnalytics #CognosAnalytics
