💡 Increasing Student Engagement in Online Classrooms 📚 Our team—Josh, Wood, Alex, Grace, and Sarah—used Edward De Bono's Six Thinking Hats to brainstorm ways to boost engagement in online classrooms: 🔴 Red Hat (Feelings): Grace highlighted the importance of emotional connections to prevent students from feeling disconnected. ⚪ White Hat (Facts): Josh shared that real-time interactions and user-friendly digital tools can improve engagement. 🟡 Yellow Hat (Benefits): Alex suggested gamifying learning with points and badges to make it more fun. 🟢 Green Hat (Ideas): Sarah proposed peer-to-peer learning sessions and immersive tools like VR for interactive lessons. 🔵 Blue Hat (Planning): Wood suggested conducting a survey to understand student preferences and gradually implementing new strategies. ⬛ Black Hat (Cautions): Josh pointed out the need to avoid overwhelming students with too many tools and considering tech access issues. At the forefront of innovation, Centennial fosters an environment where new practices enhance student learning and shape the future of special education. A prime example of Centennial’s innovative approach is our Immersive Learning Center (ILC), a 360-degree learning environment where students engage with content in new and meaningful ways. Our recent projects highlight how immersive learning is redefining instruction and accelerating student growth, including the ImmersED Project, led by COE professors Drs. Zilong Pan and Lia Sandilos. Initiatives like ImmersEd demonstrate how Centennial continues to expand what is possible in education and equips students with the skills to succeed in school and beyond.
