I was thrilled to attend the inaugural Global AI Summit on Africa, #GAISAfrica2025 in Kigali, Rwanda 🇷🇼. The two-day summit was filled with immersive conversations focused on holistically advancing AI in Africa. On day 1, I attended the opening ceremony, Leading in the Age of AI. The panel discussion was centred on governance and infrastructure. It was inspiring to learn that Strive Masiyiwa has invested in Africa's first AI factory in partnership with NVIDIA. At a later session, Innovating for a Healthier Future, I got to listen to challenges impacting health innovation from top officials in global health tech organizations. Trevor Mundel highlighted that translating research into practical solutions that actually reach patients should be a key focus point. On day 2, Vukosi Marivate spoke about the Deep Learning Indaba's commitment to empower local actors in research and development across the continent, during the GenAI Gaps and Opportunities for Inclusive Development session. The impact of this work is clear in their recently launched Impact Report, available here - https://lnkd.in/dvcnVYwi. Later, during the session Reimagining Trust & Safety to Drive Equity and Inclusion, the panelists led thought-provoking conversations. Prof. Salma Abbasi's passion for creating a safe digital environment for women and children was truly infectious! The session concluded with a powerful poem by Dr. Joy Buolamwini - and as a #CodedBias fan, meeting her was an absolute joy! I also got a chance to hang out with Philomena Mbura! A big thanks to Rwanda Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Ashley Njoroge. To Claire Matuka and Phyian Karinge, looking forward to more of these 😀!
