Network Slice Deployment and Awareness In 5G networks, network slicing allows operators to create multiple virtual networks on the same physical infrastructure — each tailored for different services. During deployment, network slices are configured on the gNodeB (with S-NSSAI and operator info) and linked to: Tracking areas → to connect slices to all cells inside these areas. NG interfaces → to route slice traffic to the correct AMF or UPF. This setup ensures that each slice’s data is isolated through VLAN configurations, keeping traffic separate and secure. When a UE connects, the gNodeB decides which AMF to use based on what the UE reports: If S-NSSAI is known → use the AMF linked to that slice. If Temp ID is valid → use the AMF for that Temp ID. If neither → use a default AMF. Once connected, the UE sends its slice info (S-NSSAI) to the network. The core then checks if it supports that slice: If yes → it starts the PDU session setup process with the gNodeB. If no → it replies with supported slice info instead. This process makes the RAN fully aware of the network slices available on the core side — enabling efficient slice management and better service experience for each UE. #5G #NetworkSlicing #RAN #CoreNetwork #Telecom #gNodeB #AMF #UPF #Wireless #5GTechnology
